I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
This year during October our lives were turned upside down when following an unrelated blood test which showed up some abnormal results our mum, mother in law and nan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
This form of common cancer has the lowest 5 year survival rates of 13% and over half of the people diagnosed lose there battle within 3 months.
For the best chance of survival surgery is essential and less than 20% of people diagnosed are eligible for the whipple procedure which fortunately for us our mum was and had this surgery and is recovering well and is ready to start her next battle starting chemotherapy.
During this time for mum and us trying to understand and navigate this horrible situation has been tough and PCUK have been amazing as being able to talk to actual nurses who can give very accurate and informative information in helping mum and us to understand what’s coming next and likely outcomes.
It has been tough but none of us have been surprised that mum has been the strongest one out of us all during this time.
Well done Holly!!
