I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. More than half of people die within three months of diagnosis.
My Aunty Pam had Pancreatic cancer, she had a huge operation to remove the pancreas and other organs. This left her with very difficult 3c diabetes and has to take enzyme tablets with all food.
My workshop partner’s wife Sue died of this awful disease, we watched her painful demise over just 9 months.
My son Nathan has long term Chronic pancreatitis caused by SPINK 1 mutation, this is likely to turn to pancreatic Cancer in the future, he has recently had the go ahead to remove his Pancreas, duodenum, spleen and some of his small intestine to prevent this awful disease. This scares us all so much.
Survival rates for other cancers have improved dramatically in recent years. But decades of underfunding mean we still don’t have the tests and treatments to tackle this disease. People with pancreatic cancer have been overlooked and ignored for far too long.
That’s why I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK and I'd really appreciate your support. Your donations will support vital, world-leading research, ensure specialist nurses are there to take more calls and fuel campaigns to drive positive change.
Together, we will bring more than hope to people affected by pancreatic cancer.
I am going to swim the ‘challenge 24’ I’ll hopefully swim a mile a day 24 times in November. That’s 64 lengths of Bexhill pool for each session.

November 24 Complete
It’s November now and I’ll set the pace
To Swim 24 miles, it’s a challenge, not a race.
For pancreatic Cancer Uk, I’ll swim til it’s done,
Pacing my strokes, no problem, I’m sure it’ll be fun!

While sharing selfies with my wringing wet hair,
I’m swimming for a cause so close to my heart,
Now water in my ears and plugs in my cart,
64 and a half lengths make up each and every mile,
I’m sure it will get easier I groan with a smile.
The goggles fog up, my arms are aching,
I will not stop all the time you’re donating.
The end is near, the finish in sight,
I've swum through lunchtimes and many a night,
For Pancreatic Cancer UK, I took the dive,
And now I’m surfacing and feeling alive,
Lap after lap, I’ve counted and fought,
Through chaos, cramp and every stray thought,
The 64 and a half length, the 24th mile,
Every stroke had purpose, each length a trial,
I dodgers the splashers, the drifters, the walkers, the best
Faced the butterfly king at his absolute best,
My goggles leaked, my rhythm went wrong,
But here I am still pushing along.
The support from all you guys has kept me afloat,
Every kind word, each generous note,
With each donation, I’ve found the will,
To power through lanes when the water stood still
So here’s to the cause, to hope we ignite,
To those we’ve lost & those futures bright,
One final length and I’ll touch the wall,
But the fight against this disease? that’s for us all.

Together we are stronger, as strong as can be.
I’ve swum my last lap and done it with pride, for those by our side.

First mile done
After an exciting but tiring week with 19 scouts in Flanders, we’ve got to 1st November. Minibus home then straight back out to complete my first mile. 64 lengths of Bexhill leisure pool. Just about completed it in an hour, but it was quite tight! ShareThank you to my Sponsors
