I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Over the last few months in lockdown I have been exercising and running more than I have ever done - for my mental health and for my physical health. So when I saw this challenge I felt like it was the perfect way for me to channel my exercising energies. As some know, my lovely and beautiful nan passed away from, amongst other awful things, pancreatic cancer. To say we feel her loss tremendously is an understatement so in her memory I am going to challenge myself further. I also know that by raising money for this charity, other families in the future will be saved from the true pain of watching a loved one pass from this cruel disease. Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer. Thank you all so much in advance :)

My donations could fund...

29 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

13 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Day 24 - 6.2 miles / 10k

I started this journey in the hope of raising some money for cancer but also in the hopes of challenging myself mentally and physically. Thinking back to day 1, I wanted to get to 10 k by the end of the challenge but I wasn’t convinced it would happen as a beginner runner but today I out did myself and I did the 10k. My feet, legs, neck - everything - hurt by the end but I wanted to know that I worked my hardest today for my nana and for all of the other nanas who aren’t here to share in our lives.

I am going to continue running. This is just the beginning for me! Thank you Nan for this precious gift!!

Day 23 - 2.95 miles / 4.76 k

We are finally at one run left! How on Earth have I managed to not only complete the challenge but double the miles asked for. To say this is a massive achievement for me is an understatement but knowing that I’ve done this in memory of my Nan makes it all the more special. She was such a special lady and so to honour her in this way is a privilege. What I wouldn’t give to spend another day with her, but these 23 runs have been wonderful because I’ve felt her with me, cheering me on and being proud of the help my fundraising will provide to families like ours but who could, in the future, be spared the loss of a loved and cherished family member. Lots of love Nan xxx

Day 22 - 1.4 miles / 2.26km

Day 22 - 1.4 miles run.

It was another wet run today but I wore a hoody this time so less cold and muggy.

I also ran faster today so pleased with that. Tomorrow I will take it easy to keep myself well for Saturday’s grand finale when I will be trying to outrun my personal best :)

I cannot believe there’s only 2 days left...

Day 21 - 1.7 miles

Today was my first run in the rain so I’m off for a shower :)

Day 20: 1.5 miles

Today I walked my distance - 1.5 miles - because my lower legs have been pulling a bit for the last few days and I was advised to do a little less for a few days. This gives them time to recover for the finale on Saturday :)

Day 19 - 2.48 miles

Today I did 4K / 2.48 miles. My legs are feeling the burn now so the next few runs will have to be low impact if I am to do well on the final day - in just 5 runs time :)

Please keep sharing and telling people - we’ve nearly raised £700 which is phenomenal :)

Day 18 - 1.5 miles

Good morning.
Today I did a shorter run to maintain myself for the last week. I’m hoping to get to 10K on Saturday but as long as I do more than my personal best then I will be happy :)

I have all the time in the world to get to 10k but what a high it would be to finish on that.

I’m loving finding new routes to run as it makes it more interesting seeing all the scenery and meeting different runners on their various routes :)

Last 6 runs for pancreatic cancer... here we come :)

Day 17 - 3 miles

Today is the first day when I have run two consecutive 5ks (well one 5.6 and one 4.9). I feel like I am getting fitter and my recovery time is much lower.

I did have to walk half a k of it today because my lower legs are feeling the burn now but I will do smaller runs this week in hopes of getting close to the 10k goal a week from today.

I can’t believe there’s just a week left but I know there’s no time limit now on my running. I’ve found something I’m really enjoying - so thank you Nan for giving this to me :)

Day 16 - 3.5 miles

Good morning - and it is a good morning! Today, after having been ill, I did a 5.6 k / 3.5 mile run - which I am very very happy with. I didn’t think I’d get back to much this week but I am happy with that.

My fiancé and I have decided that, for the finale run next Saturday, we’re going to attempt a 10k - so this next week I’ll be running shorter runs for that :)

Day 15 - 2 miles

First day back to running rather than walking after being mildly under the weather. Today I ran 3.2 miles without stopping - much more than I thought my fatigued body would do. But that goes to show that fitness stays there as long as you nurture it. Even though I only walked the last two days, one 1 k and one 5 k, I still kept moving and my body is rewarding me for that now.

I also ran a new route today which was nice. I’m loving where I am living because there is so much potential for walking, running and cycling :)

Day 14 - 1.5 miles

Today was another walk as I am still under the weather. I did a longer walk than yesterday and am now exhausted but my feeling is that the more I can do within my limits right now the better position I will be in to complete the last 10 days! I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 14 days now - no wonder I’m tired :)

The final 10 days - here we come :)

Day 13 - 1 mile

Evening

Today I managed just a one mile walk. I’ve been a tad under the weather - which has sadly affected my asthma a little meaning I’ve been finding it a little tricky breathing let alone running. I will take it easy for the next few days in the hope that I can get back to the running by the weekend :)

Still, I got out there today even if it was just a run :)

Day 12 - 1.25 miles

Today was a huge struggle. I’m tired; sore throat; legs ache. But I got up and I did a small run and hopefully if I take it easy then I will be ready to smash a 6.5/7k on Saturday :)

Day 11 - 1 mile

Today was my first hungover run hence just doing one mile. I also wanted to do as little as possible to enable me to recover from yesterday’s mega 6k! My knees are really sore today so a long soak in the bath is necessary.

My fiancé Matt also ran with me today because I think he knew how hard I would find today :)

Day 10 - 3.79 miles

Good morning!

Today I did 3.79 miles / 6.1 kilometres - the most I have ever run!

Please keep sharing for me so we can get more donations to support this charity!

Day 4 of Nan: some of my Favourite memories were of a week staying with her when I was 12 - my parents had gone on holiday - and the walking and cooking! Such precious memories :)

Day 9 - 1.2 miles

Morning!

It’s just gone 6.30 and my run is done. I find getting up and doing it straight away serves many benefits: 1- I actually do it; 2- I’m active straight away and so I find I have more energy in the day; 3 - I’m in a good mental place for the day after running. I never thought I’d ever say this but: I am actually really enjoying running. Don’t get me wrong, when the day comes when I don’t have to do it every day I will also be happy but I know after this I’m going to continue running multiple times a week :)

Today I just did a short run because tomorrow I aim to best my personal best distance and do 5.5k. So today’s short run was to allow me to be as rested as possible for tomorrow.

Day four about Nan: she was married to her wonderful husband Bob for over 60 years! They were each other’s greatest loves. I am so proud of my grandad for how well he has coped since losing Nan! He’s started baking and he’s doing house renovations; he’s been on trips away. You never know the toll caring for a cancer patient can take and I know he would have her back in a heartbeat if he could but he’s really shown us what strength looks like! 😍

Day 8 - 1.5 miles

Today I found really hard. It’s the first day when I’ve really not enjoyed the idea of running and I was going to do just the minimum today of 1.6k or a mile. However I did find when I got going and got over the morning tiredness that I did enjoy myself. I even managed a k more than I planned. It’s getting tough now we’re in to week 2 but I am fully committed to getting to day 24.

Day three fact about Nan: she was an amazing chef and worked in the food industry as a younger woman. Her food was always so beautifully cooked :)

Day 7 - 2.65 miles

Morning!

Today is the first day where I’ve really struggled. I think it’s because it’s 7 days of running every day and also because it’s literally in the 20s degrees! I tried to keep to shade but the oppressive heat just makes running so much harder.

But, I did and I did a longer route for the mid week run.

So for something about my nan day 2: she loved orchids - well all flowers really. I’ve always found orchids hard to keep alive but this year I’m going to get an orchid and keep it alive for her :) Love you Nan!

Day 6 - 1.5 miles

Morning!

I’ve decided my goal by the end of the week is to run 5.5k flat out - so to do that I’m going to run shorter runs but more intensively in the week to increase my endurance and fitness :)

Today I am running in my brand new pancreatic cancer fundraiser t shirt which fits me perfectly in a small - a new thing for me!!!

I’ve also decided on these blogs to log something about my Nan each day. So day number 1 on Daphne Irene Love:

Her favourite song is on top of the world by the carpenters - which is why I often to listen to that song on my runs - it helps that it has a good beat to it :)

Keep there Nan - on top of the world looking down on us all :)

Day 5 - 2.2 miles

Good morning,

A shorter run today - 2.2 miles / 3.5 km. Today is the first day I’ve woken up and run before going into work - something I wasn’t sure I had it in me to do but I think the run, and the time to think it has given me, has settled any anxieties I had and given me the boost of energy I needed.

Bring on tomorrow :)

Day 4 - 1.5 miles

Morning all

By half 7 on this Sunday morning I have completed run number 4. After yesterday’s mega 5 k today I thought I’d go easier so I did 2.5 k (1.5 miles).

Thanks again for all of your support and please keep sharing the page :)

Day 3 - 3.1 miles

Good morning,

What a lovely bright day!

Today I was dreading running because it’s warm and humid outside. I thought, as I left the house, I’ll do what I can and do the shorter route. But as I got to the point where I could have chosen longer or shorter, I ran towards the longer route - a route I’ve never run before. I committed to doing a full 5k and an uphill one at that.

As I was running, I kept thinking try to work out where the point is that I get really tired and it came at about 4.5k but that only spurred me on more because that’s a sure sign of getting fitter. I remember a time when I got tired at 1 k :) those days are long gone.

Even though Nan is gone I feel like she’s given me this amazing gift of running. I started running before this challenge but taking up the run 24 has shown me that I can do it every day :) and I’m also learning how to enjoy it. Heck, today I even smiled as I was running - a new me is emerging out of the weeds of an inactive past.

Who knows, maybe I’ll be the next Jessica Ennis (in my dreams anyway).

For now, please share my page and come back tomorrow for the next update.

Day 2 - 2.1 miles

Good morning :)

Today I managed a little over 2 miles which I’m pleased with because today is the first day where I have been on a run when I also did one the day before. I think my body feels it a little but I am not giving up.

My Nan would be so proud and that keeps me going :) to be able to do this in her memory is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

Please also share my page where you can - you never know who might be in the mood to donate xx
