I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Over the last few months in lockdown I have been exercising and running more than I have ever done - for my mental health and for my physical health. So when I saw this challenge I felt like it was the perfect way for me to channel my exercising energies. As some know, my lovely and beautiful nan passed away from, amongst other awful things, pancreatic cancer. To say we feel her loss tremendously is an understatement so in her memory I am going to challenge myself further. I also know that by raising money for this charity, other families in the future will be saved from the true pain of watching a loved one pass from this cruel disease. Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer. Thank you all so much in advance :)
My donations could fund...
29 hours with a nurse on our Support Line
or
13 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Day 24 - 6.2 miles / 10k
I started this journey in the hope of raising some money for cancer but also in the hopes of challenging myself mentally and physically. Thinking back to day 1, I wanted to get to 10 k by the end of the challenge but I wasn’t convinced it would happen as a beginner runner but today I out did myself and I did the 10k. My feet, legs, neck - everything - hurt by the end but I wanted to know that I worked my hardest today for my nana and for all of the other nanas who aren’t here to share in our lives.
Day 23 - 2.95 miles / 4.76 k
We are finally at one run left! How on Earth have I managed to not only complete the challenge but double the miles asked for. To say this is a massive achievement for me is an understatement but knowing that I’ve done this in memory of my Nan makes it all the more special. She was such a special lady and so to honour her in this way is a privilege. What I wouldn’t give to spend another day with her, but these 23 runs have been wonderful because I’ve felt her with me, cheering me on and being proud of the help my fundraising will provide to families like ours but who could, in the future, be spared the loss of a loved and cherished family member. Lots of love Nan xxx Share
Day 22 - 1.4 miles / 2.26km
Day 22 - 1.4 miles run.
Day 21 - 1.7 miles
Today was my first run in the rain so I’m off for a shower :) Share
Day 20: 1.5 miles
Today I walked my distance - 1.5 miles - because my lower legs have been pulling a bit for the last few days and I was advised to do a little less for a few days. This gives them time to recover for the finale on Saturday :) Share
Day 19 - 2.48 miles
Today I did 4K / 2.48 miles. My legs are feeling the burn now so the next few runs will have to be low impact if I am to do well on the final day - in just 5 runs time :)
Day 18 - 1.5 miles
Good morning.
Day 17 - 3 miles
Today is the first day when I have run two consecutive 5ks (well one 5.6 and one 4.9). I feel like I am getting fitter and my recovery time is much lower.
Day 16 - 3.5 miles
Good morning - and it is a good morning! Today, after having been ill, I did a 5.6 k / 3.5 mile run - which I am very very happy with. I didn’t think I’d get back to much this week but I am happy with that.
Day 15 - 2 miles
First day back to running rather than walking after being mildly under the weather. Today I ran 3.2 miles without stopping - much more than I thought my fatigued body would do. But that goes to show that fitness stays there as long as you nurture it. Even though I only walked the last two days, one 1 k and one 5 k, I still kept moving and my body is rewarding me for that now.
Day 14 - 1.5 miles
Today was another walk as I am still under the weather. I did a longer walk than yesterday and am now exhausted but my feeling is that the more I can do within my limits right now the better position I will be in to complete the last 10 days! I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 14 days now - no wonder I’m tired :)
Day 13 - 1 mile
Evening
Day 12 - 1.25 miles
Today was a huge struggle. I’m tired; sore throat; legs ache. But I got up and I did a small run and hopefully if I take it easy then I will be ready to smash a 6.5/7k on Saturday :) Share
Day 11 - 1 mile
Today was my first hungover run hence just doing one mile. I also wanted to do as little as possible to enable me to recover from yesterday’s mega 6k! My knees are really sore today so a long soak in the bath is necessary.
Day 10 - 3.79 miles
Good morning!
Day 9 - 1.2 miles
Morning!
Day 8 - 1.5 miles
Today I found really hard. It’s the first day when I’ve really not enjoyed the idea of running and I was going to do just the minimum today of 1.6k or a mile. However I did find when I got going and got over the morning tiredness that I did enjoy myself. I even managed a k more than I planned. It’s getting tough now we’re in to week 2 but I am fully committed to getting to day 24.
