I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Unfortunately my dad passed away in April of pancreatic cancer only 6 months after diagnosis, leaving a huge hole in my life.
Due to a lack of early symptoms, pancreatic cancer is often only diagnosed at a late stage. Pancreatic Cancer UK fund pioneering research to help make breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and provide specialist support to those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Each day In the UK 24 people pass away from pancreatic cancer. That’s why I am taking on Challenge 24 during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month this November. By completing 24 miles of exercise each week through a mixture of walking, running and cycling, three things my dad loved to do, I hope to raise awareness and contribute to the important work this charity does. Please support me if you can to help make a difference.
My donations could fund...
66 hours with a nurse on our Support Line
or
29 hours of early diagnosis research

FINISHED!
Final week done and 3 walks made my 24 miles this week. Weather wasn’t as good and it was quite muddy but I did it! Had some company from my mum, partner and mother in law which makes all the difference to motivation. 96 miles of exercise in 28 days all in memory of my wonderful dad. It makes no difference to losing him but I hope I’ve helped contribute to making a better future for others with pancreatic cancer. Thankyou for all your support ! Share
Week 3
This week has been the toughest week yet. I have been so tired and really lacking energy and enthusiasm! But I carried on and started my miles on Tuesday with a 7 mile walk round the village with mum. On Wednesday I met my Aunty and cousin at Hyde Hall for a 4 mile March round the gardens. After two long shifts I then cycled 10 miles from home to the cemetery again with my partner on yesterday (saturday) which was a struggle but we managed it with the temptation of hot dogs at home when we returned! I finished today with a beautiful yet muddy 3 mile walk with my best friend and her fiancé in Weald park in Brentwood. One of the most scenic parks I’ve been to with fallow deer and ducks roaming around. I’ve struggled to motivate myself to get out and get going this week but once I’m out with some of the views of the countryside I’m reminded how lucky I am to be able to do this and I’m determined to carry on and push through the last week. Week 2
This week I started with a 10 mile cycle to and from the cemetery via beeliegh lock with my partner. This was followed by a much needed days rest with some very achy legs. Filled the week with a walk with a friend and a walk with my mum. The views of the countryside in autumn are so pretty and are something I feel I’ve taken for granted until now. I finished this weeks miles with a 5 mile bike ride around Wickham Bishops and Great Totham stopping at the beacon to take in the view of maldon. Dad and I used to cycle and sit at the bench by the beacon when I was a child, it’s a very fond memory. This week has started to challenge me physically with my rest days from this challenge being the days I’m working 13 hour shifts on my feet. The soles of my feet are sore and my body is never happy to get out of bed! However I made the miles for week 2 and I have hit the halfway mark which feels so good. Time to start week 3! Share
First week done
Week 1 done and I have reached my target of 24 miles. Started with a 10 mile bike ride last weekend with my partner, then filled the week with a small run on my own and a walk with mum. Finished today with a 10 mile walk with my brother from Wickham Bishops to the cemetery in Maldon. The Beeleigh footbridge was open for the first time after being repaired so we followed the footpaths along Blackwater Rail Trail then across the footbridge and up Abbey road to the cemetery. Then walked into Maldon for some coffee fuel and back along the Rail Trail home. Bring on week 2! Share
Day 1
10.6 mile cycle from Wickham Bishops to Maldon Cemetery to see dad via Langford and Beeleigh Falls. Cycled part the way along the old railway line my dad used to use to get the train from Hatfield Peverel to Maldon when he was younger. The railway line is no longer in use and is so pretty to walk/ ride along especially covered in autumn leaves ShareThank you to my Sponsors
