In loving memory of
Mum

Remember September
Every 3 days 84 people die from pancreatic cancer in the UK. I’m walking 84km in September to raise money and awareness for pancreatic cancer in memory of my lovely mum, Karen.
Mum fell ill very quickly in the summer of 2024. She went to A&E on the 20th July 2024 with suspected gallstones. An emergency scan showed that mum had pancreatic cancer which had spread to her liver and lungs. We were shocked. After a few days in hospital and some more tests, mum was given the heartbreaking news that there was no treatment available to her and nothing could be done. She was placed under the care of the palliative care team and sent home. We moved back home to care for mum, not knowing how long she had left but knowing it wouldn’t be long. The weeks that followed were absolutely brutal and utterly heartbreaking.
Mum passed away at home on the 21st August 2024. She was 61 years old. She was too young to die.
Mum’s story is horrific, but it’s not uncommon. Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer in the UK.
- Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival of all common cancers, with five-year survival less than 7%.
- 1 in 5 people with pancreatic cancer are diagnosed at stage one and stage two.
- 80% (4 in 5) are diagnosed at stage three and stage four.
- 1 in 2 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer via an emergency, such as A&E.
- 7 in 10 people with pancreatic cancer do not receive any active treatment.
- 1 in 10 people with pancreatic cancer will receive potentially curative surgery.
- 2 in 10 people will receive chemotherapy.

Pancreatic cancer is underfunded and under-researched. The more money and awareness raised means more research and support for people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Walking 84km in a month might not seem like much but I now have a tiny human in tow, so Harry and I will be doing the challenge together - he’ll be in his pram of course! We’ll be remembering my lovely mum/Harry’s nanny every step of the way.
We hope for a future where people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer have hope.
Please donate if you can. Thank you.
