Walking for David
This September, I’m walking 84km in memory of David, who we lost far too soon to cancer.
David was my partner, my best friend and a huge part of my life. There are so many things I wish we’d had more time for, and so many moments now where I wish he was here to share them.
Over the last year, I’ve read a lot about hepatobiliary cancers, including pancreatic and biliary tract cancers. One of the most shocking statistics I’ve come across is that around 50% of diagnoses come after a patient presents at A&E - just as David did.
I understand now just how aggressive and difficult these cancers can be to diagnose and treat, but anything that can be done to help more people get diagnosed earlier would be hugely important progress. It could mean more people getting the treatment they need, and more families having more time with the people they love.
This September marks one year since we lost David. As the nights get longer, Skye and I will be out walking - trying to keep moving, keep remembering and keep moving forward, quite literally and figuratively.
