Purple Socks Day in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK

By Justine Cox

I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month in the UK.

Pancreatic Cancer kills virtually the same amount of people as Breast Cancer. However, over the past forty years the number of Breast Cancer survivors beyond 5 years has increased from 46% to 80%. In comparison, the number of people surviving beyond 5 years with Pancreatic Cancer remains as it was forty years ago at just 3%.

I lost my Father to Pancreatic Cancer in 2016. He was 68 years young and had been healthy up to his diagnosis only 3 months earlier. My Father was a huge Football fan all his life and would regularly relish watching his Grandson's play for their local Football Club. My Husband and two sons have been heavily involved with Prestwood Colts & Girls FC, based in Prestwood Bucks, for years. I have endorsement from Pancreatic Cancer UK and permission from the Club to hold a 'Purple Socks Day' on SUNDAY 24TH NOVEMBER 2019. This campaign aims to raise much needed funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Every Prestwood Colts Football Club team coach and their players will be wearing a pair of purple football socks during their matches.

Our fantastic sponsor - Creative and Innovation company Forever Beta (www.forever-beta.com), are funding the cost of purchasing the socks. All I am asking is that players and their families donate a minimum of £5 to this very worthy Charity. 100% of your donations will go to Pancreatic Cancer UK to fund the development of a simple test for GPs to help them diagnose pancreatic cancer earlier and save lives.

Donations can be made via this Fundraising page. In addition, purple collection buckets will be at the home ground on Saturday 23rd November and Sunday 24th November. Please ensure you encourage lots of supporters to your matches on Sunday 24th and you may find yourself featuring in a local press article!

Thank you to Prestwood Colts & Girls Football Club for hosting this event and for donating any profit made from their Cafe that weekend to this fantastic cause.

My donations could fund...

65 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

29 hours of early diagnosis research
