In loving memory of
Karen Jean Hirst
30/12/1959 - 12/07/2026
A beautiful soul, deeply loved, forever remembered.
Support my challenge to fight for a world without pancreatic cancer
This September, I’ll be walking 84 km as part of Remember September,
In loving memory of my beautiful Nannan, Karen Jean Hirst.
I’m walking 84 km because for every three days, 84 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK.
My Nannan thought she had nothing more than a stomach bug.
Instead, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer…
Eight days was all pancreatic cancer gave us.
Eight days from hearing the words no family ever wants to hear, to saying goodbye forever.
I watched the strongest, kindest woman I’ve ever known endure unimaginable pain and suffering. I watched this cruel disease take more from her with each passing day until, she took her final breath.
Watching someone you love disappear so quickly is something I wouldn’t wish on any family.
I keep finding myself asking the same questions.
What if it had been found sooner?
What if there had been better ways to detect it?
What if there had been more effective treatments?
I don’t know if those answers would have changed our story.
But I do know that I never want another family to experience what ours did.
That’s why I’m walking 84 km this September.
Every step is for my Nannan.
Every kilometre is for the families living this nightmare today.
Every donation helps fund the research needed to improve earlier diagnosis, develop better treatments and, one day, save lives.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how much, thank you. If you can’t, sharing this page could help it reach someone who can.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me honour the most incredible woman I’ve ever known.
This is for you, Nannan.
I love you. I miss you every single day.
And I’ll carry you with me every step of the way💜

I’m challenging myself to push myself out of my comfort zone (being my home), raise as much money as I possibly can and honour my late Nannan. My Nannan’s name is Karen Hirst. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer after going to the hospital due to stomach ache. 8 days later she died. The pain she suffered was torture for her to experience, and for me to watch. After researching a lot about this, I realise just how little is done for those who receive this devastating news. I can’t help save my Nannan, but I hope my efforts help to save someone else. This is my why.
