I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
My mum died of pancreatic cancer on 19 June 2020 around 18 months after the diagnosis. She had whipple surgery to remove the original tumour which involved removal of the gall bladder, bile duct, partial removal of the pancreas and part of the intestine as well as lymph nodes. She then endured 6 months of chemotherapy.
Throughout she remained determined to beat it but with pancreatic cancer the odds are against you.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers – just 5% of those diagnosed survive beyond five years. This figure has barely improved in 40 years. More research and greater awareness of the condition is needed to improve the odds of survival
Pancreatic cancer is tough – tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. And, in the uncertain times we’re currently experiencing, things have become even tougher for people with pancreatic cancer.
I’m Standing Out to raise money and to raise awareness for this vital cause by cutting my hair. Mum was so worried she'd loose her hair during chemo it seems right that I should cut mine and donate it to a charity that makes wigs.
Please support me and my fundraising. Together we can make a difference and fund life-saving research.
My donations could fund...
79 hours with a nurse on our Support Line
or
35 hours of early diagnosis research
