A 1,000km ride to support my neighbour, remember mum and raise awareness for pancreatic cancer.
My neighbour Hasan lives on our road and a year ago, not long after we met, he told me about how his dad Emin had died rapidly of pancreatic cancer about 4 years before. I could feel his loss, because my brother and I had lost our own mum to bowel cancer just a couple of years before that.
Hasan also told me about a dream he had - to cycle 2000km from his dad's former house in London all the way to his birthplace in Kosovo, to honour his memory while raising awareness for pancreatic cancer. Neither of us had ever tried road cycling before but this dream sounded amazing, and I told Hasan I would help him train for it.
Now, finally, the ride is a reality. And while I can't join him all the way to Prishtina (can't miss my son's birthday!) I'm committed to doing all I can to make sure Hasan gets at least half way there - right across France and over the Alps (gulp!) to Milan - by riding with him.
While Hasan thinks of his dad, I will also be thinking of my mum, and how much she would have been amazed and excited by this adventure.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive and least understood cancers. Early detection is rare, and treatment options are limited. By supporting this ride, you’re helping fund research, raise awareness, and bring light to families who feel lost in the shadows.

Nice work with the cycling Gaz… My Dad lost his wife, Julie, to pancreatic cancer. Sadly by the time it is diagnosed it is often way too late, as it was in her case. Thanks for fundraising for it!
