I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Hi!
I’m going to be running the Winter 10k to raise vital funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK. For those that know, you’ll know why this charity is so important. For those that don’t, I’ll give you a little background.
In 2016 my incredible mum passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. From being a completely healthy and fit individual, the life and soul of our family, to 9 weeks later coming home to die.
I say she was completely fit. She was, and had been throughout her life. No illness or ailment would stop her in her tracks day to day. She fell off her moped in 2015 and plowed on for a full 24 hours before admitting that her arm really did hurt. She ended up with a metal plate and 8 screws with how bad she’d broken it.
In the year leading up to her diagnosis there were signs and symptoms that we, nor our GP had managed to piece together. Around a year prior she started to get back pains, she had a change in her appetite and lost weight. Nothing sinister was suspected. A blood test and a well woman check up just that year showed she was due to live well into her 80’s. In August she returned from holiday and decided to go to the doctors after I noticed that she didn’t seemed tanned but a bit yellow.
This led to her diagnosis of metastatic stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She passed away on the 25th of October 2016
Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer.
PCUK are in trials to make a breath test for pancreatic cancer. This simple test could revolutionise the future of diagnosis in patients. It may not bring mum back but by raising some money for this research in mums memory I know she’d be so happy that she helped stop the devastating blow that cancer has on families.
