Let's do it!

By Angie Hall

I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer.

This disease has taken three lovely healthy people very suddenly from their friends and families, Sheila Hall in 2003, Dorothy Mulvey and Kate Dudson both in 2021, the more I talk to people the more I hear that they too have lost people close to them because of it.

Hope you agree it's time for action and to help by giving money towards research and the support of families and friends - so please help me and give as generously as you can to my Garden Parties, walks and anything else I dream up to drag you into!

My donations could fund...

328 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

147 hours of early diagnosis research

Money from Christmas Cards and donations

Various bits of cash have been donated by friends and Karen's lovely cards have made another £40 for the Charity! Kate we will never forget you but this is probably the last donation to this Charity which we have supported in your honour! xxxxxxx

Ceilidh

We had a marvellous time with Schuggie - we raised a massive £357 from ticket sales, raffle and bottle game! Thanks to the people of Allestree, all my friends and neighbours and everyone who came and really threw themselves into the evening - great fun!

Ceilidh fundraiser - 11th November 2023

If you like a Barn Dance you'll love a Ceilidh with Schuggie MacInnes as the Caller!
Tickets from me @ £10 cash (family rates available) - bring your own drinks/glasses/snacks and your friends for a really good night out at St Nicholas Church, Allestree Lane/Lawn Avenue DE22 2PE on Saturday 11th November.

Plant Sale and Cafe

Thanks to all my wonderful friends, neighbours and visitors passed on to me by Jules (via her plant sale and money raising for Hedgehog Rescue  🦔 ) we raised a fabulous £400 from tea, cake, samosa and raffle 🎉

Thanks again folks the fundraising will continue ad Infinitum, heard of yet another lovely person struck down within weeks of this awful disease 😔

The next event will be on Saturday 1st July between 12 and 4.00 pm in my garden to coincide with Street Sales.

Denis and friends Christmas Card money

Denis collected money from his friends while they were otherwise engaged with a glass in their hands over Christmas and New Year in lieu of sending cards and they very generously agreed that it should go to Pancreatic Cancer! Thanks you so much!

Tea and cake on the Arts Trail 👩‍🎨 💨

Thanks my friends and neighbours for calling in for tea and cake, a soaking on the Saturday and  very blustery on Sunday made it difficult to hang on to things but we managed to make another £116 plus some online donations🙏

What a Saturday night that was!

An amazing total of £1,390 was raised from ticket sales, generous donations, raffle, bottle game AND sale of a random selection of filled cobs 😂
💰🎼🎸🍷🍺🥪👗👠👠👔💃

Loads of you (guess about 150/160, so busy we lost count!) came out on a cold wet ‘June’ 🤔 night, threw yourselves into the fundraising, music,  dancing,  drinking, met old friends, made new ones and talked the night away THANK YOU 🙏 I really enjoyed it, hope you did too 💃

It's this Saturday!

150 tickets sold!
Looking forward to a great evening, good music, good company and raising money for a great cause, bring your £1's for the bottle raffle and bottle game.
The doors open at 7.30, the band are on at 8.30 until 9.15 - a break for raffle, bottle game and dancing to Motown and then on for another 45 mins.
There's plenty of parking at the Rugby Club, remember that the Darley Abbey bridge is closed and there is only access from Haslam's Lane off Alfreton/Mansfield Road.

Looking forward to seeing you there or be square!

Rugby Club 'do' Saturday 18th June - get your tickets NOW

The band is lined up, the Motown classics have been chosen all we need now is for you to get your tickets for you and your family/friends to join us at the Rugby Club for good company, music, dancing, bottle raffle and bottle game (bring your cash).
Tickets are £5 from me or my ticket touts out there - Bob Chambers and Denis Stack, please come for a good night out raising money in memory of our lovely friend Kate Dudson - I'm almost there with my target of £5,000, not quite within the year but nearly!

Saturday Afternoon Tea

You lovely generous people have raised another £235 on this sunny afternoon (28th May) it was supposed to be my thank you to you for supporting me! But you paid handsomely for lovely plants from brother Dave and some donated by Pauline and of course we had to have a raffle!

Thank you neighbours and friends!

Wow! £300 from tea, cake and plants in my garden on Saturday 7th May👏👏👏🌺
It was a gorgeously sunny afternoon and everyone enjoyed sitting and chatting, we couldn’t keep up with the teas and cakes needed, they went like, well, hot cakes😂
🌺🌸🌼🌻

Dates of fundraisers

Saturday 7th May (1.00 - 4.00) tea, cake, plants in the garden at 49 Longford and on the Steets 🌺

Saturday 28th May (2.00 pm onwards) thank you afternoon for all the walkers and everyone who’s supported me and the charity👞👞🙏👏

Saturday night out 18th June, 7.30-11.30, Derby Rugby Club, my Platinum Party for the ‘52’ers’ and family and friends of friends. Tickets in advance from me £5. Live Band and all your old favourite music👗👠👕👖🎸🎷🎹 🥂🍻

Saturday and Sunday 25th & 26th June Arts Trail on the Six Streets with pop up cafe in my garden 🖼

First tea party of the year🍰☕️🌺

Raised £300 from this!

Saturday 7th May between 1.00 and 4.00, come and have a cuppa and cake in the garden.
Plant sales and table top sales on my neighbouring streets are planned for that afternoon so it’s a good opportunity to invite neighbours and friends round to raise more money for PCUK.
There are more planned so watch this space👍

Total raised on walks🥾🥾

I’ve now paid in the cash paid to me for the walks and raffles making a massive total of £1,145💰thank you all soooo much, it will make such a difference to the charity🙏💕💕💕
As a small thank you for your support (and to see you all again) hope you can make tea and cake (maybe some cheese  scones🤔 are they walker’s favourite?!) in my garden on Saturday 28th May 2.00 pm onwards 🍰 🎉
RSVP

Can't believe this amount of money for doing something I loved!

I've had to do several recounts of the cash and the money donated on line - but a massive total £1,082 (know there's a bit more to come in too) has been raised from the walks with raffles!
You're all amazing and so very very kind and generous in your support whether or not you made the walks didn't matter (or socials!) but you made it worthwhile and it will make such a difference to the charity and research.

The final push in the driving rain!

But only got wet on the homeward straight! Really good walk with lovely views, my hardy friends Yvonne, Elaine, Cathy, Kath and Gill were great company especially when the going got tough!
Good tea shop stop for hot drinks and soup, made welcome even though other people had sat on our reserved table surrounded by our PCUK balloons and banners😂

Miserable weather stopped the sixth sixth walk!

However, of course we retreated to the cafe early and enjoyed tea and chat!
Thanks to Gill, John, Maureen, Denis, Anne, Helena, Helen and Joan for joining me and generously entering my raffle!
We shall return and do the walk another day!

Fifth on the 5th of the seven!

The biggest crowd yet! 18 maybe 19 of us, ran out of fingers to count on! Lovely to see so many people from so many different friendships there, it was eventful (one fall - broken glasses! cafe’s  canopy flew off in the wind - an almost decapitation! bench collapsed (before I had cake) we overwhelmed the cafe and drinks/food took an age, but was lovely when it came). The walk and the company were great and plenty of £££’s changed hands, so a good day at the office I’d say👌😊

We went forth on the fourth for the 4th walk!

Not a great morning, weather wise, dull and drizzly, but we had a lovely group walk from Elvaston Castle car park through the grounds to go by the weir and along the river Derwent near Borrowash, headed across lamb filled fields to the gorgeous village of Ambaston, Thulston then through the Golden gates impressive entry to the Park.
Thanks to Sue F, Shar, Sue B, Linda and Otis, Gill, John, Cathy and Alan for your generosity and company💕

Third walk on the 3rd from Ilam Hall

What a beautiful morning it was, sunny but chilly, perfect walking weather and perfect company.
The views were stunning, lots of lambs gambolling in the fields, daffodils and blossom on the trees, doesn’t get much better than that!
Thanks to Gill, Stacey, Sue, Rob, Denis, Maureen, Cath, Diane, Margaret and Helen for making it such a lovely day out.

Second walk on the Second 🥂

Not so much of a walk, more of a sit at the Wine Bar in Darley Abbey! A stroll from Markeaton pub, picking people up along Broadway, down into Darley Park and through the village to a ‘thronged’ Wine Bar!
Thanks to Amy, Ermina, Chris, Sue A, Uta, Jakki, Luci, Dono, Janet, Caroline and Chris for your support and generosity! We headed home, driven by hunger very much lighter in our pockets but after a lovely evening!

First on the 1st of seven walks in seven days🥾🥾

A merry band of 12 set off from the Coppice Car Park (sorry Jane D missed you!) in Belper, the uphill stretches got a few hearts racing but the views, company and good weather soon pulled everyone through and then the lovely food and drink at ‘I Should Cocoa’ completed recovery 💓
Thanks to Pauline, Debbie, Jayne, Gill, Rob C, Vicki, Beryl, Cathy, Alan, Diane (and Jane D!) for your  company and generosity, Alan won the raffle prize donated by the cafe👏

A bit of a ‘do’

Derby Rugby Football Club is the venue for my 'Platinum year do’ on Saturday 18th June, 7.30 - 11.30 pm, we have a great band called The Beat Hounds and there'll be some old favourites played and plenty of dancing!

The tickets are £5, open to everyone to come along with friends and family for a great night out.

Bring some cash for a Bottle Raffle and Bottle game!

Tickets available from me, either donate £5 on the site or cash to me please.

A week of walks!

I’m doing a week of walks between Friday 1st and Thursday 7th April, they’ll be about 5 miles , although you could do less and/or just meet us at the end at the 'refreshment' stop, or donate £5 to sponsor us? The walks should only take a couple of hours and will always end at a cafe/or pub!

Please let me know which walk you will be joining so I can book in at cafe/pub/wine bar.

I'll do a raffle each day so bring at least £1 cash!

LOOK OUT FOR PURPLE PCUK BALLOONS ON ARRIVAL AND AT THE CAFES AND WINE BAR!

MEET 15 MINS BEFORE THE START OF THE WALKS PLEASE.

#Friday 1st April: Belper  - 11.00 am start - meet Coppice Free car park off Belper Market Place, easy to moderate walk, with some steeps bits, great views, tea and cake will be taken at 'I Should Cocoa' after the walk around 1.30 pm.

#Saturday 2nd April: Markeaton Park to Darley Park - easy flat walk, ending at the cafe/wine bar at Darley Mills - meet 4.00 pm start from Markeaton Pub car park (or 5.00 ish at the Wine Bar!) or join us as we walk along Kedleston Road, Broadway, Darley Park Drive and through Darley Park to the Mills and Wine Bar. Get yourself home though!

# Sunday 3rd April - Ilam -11.00 am start, Ilam Hall NT car park (cash only £4.50). Moderate walk, some steepish inclines and descents, boots, poles recommended, be prepared for mud, some farm animals, great views and good teas at Ilam Hall cafe!

# Monday 4th April - Elvaston - meet 11.00 am Elvaston Castle car park (pay&display). Flat easy walking, some styles (there is a way to do just part of the walk) hopefully waterlogged ground will have dried up - which it had done today, Tuesday 14th March, when I walked with my trusty friend Sue, but be prepared! Tea will be taken at the cafe about 1.00/1.30.

#Tuesday 5th April - Little Eaton/Duffield - start 11.00 am Little Eaton Village Hall (where we're allowed to park). Easy to moderate, walk uphill out of Little Eaton, fields, farmland, some road walking, steep steps both up and down (there is a way to avoid these!), few stiles ,good views over fields and farmland. Janet and I walked it today, Monday 21/3, very little mud but boots and poles recommended, we were ready for refreshments at the The Little Kitchen cafe, Alfreton Road, Little Eaton 1.00/1.30pm, we have now reserved the outdoor heated area at the back of the cafe.

# Wednesday 6th April - easy walk from Markeaton Stones/ to Mackworth Village, could be muddy, over fields to the Parlour Tea Rooms, Markeaton Lane where we are expected around 2.30 pm - meet Markeaton pub car park for 12.30 pm start (after tennis for some!)

........and finally........

#Thursday 7th April - Thorpe - leaving 11.00 am from Narlows Lane free car park opposite Old Dog Pub near Tissington Trail. Moderate walk, inclines with lovely views along lanes and over fields, some squeezer stiles, a couple to climb but not difficult, refreshments to be taken at Herberts Tea Rooms in Tissington Village (free parking in the Village) around 1.00/1.30, about 15 mins walk away from Narlows Lane Car Park. THE END!

All welcome to join me for a fiver or donate £5 via this site, let me know which walk you’d like to join so I can keep you updated.

Belper coup!

My lovely friend Pauline opened her beautiful home to lots of friends and neighbours on what was the coldest possible day of the year! Pauline had baked for England and beat me hands down on the organisation of a perfect afternoon raising £400 plus online donations! Thanks go to Carole for her unstinting and steady handling of the tea pot at all of my events, and Jayne keeping the wheels oiled by washing up and serving cakes!

Clever Christmas Cards and good friends

My lovely friend Karen made some beautiful Christmas Cards which sold out immediately to our tennis friends, plus a few donations means I can pay in another £45!

Car Boots!

Who knew that you could raise £165 from a load of old rubbish - well it was a bit better than that, but you know what I mean!
On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning we made £100 at Smalley Car Boot and then on a not so sunny morning the following Thursday at Duffield another easy £65, so thank you lovely people especially those who just gave us money just for the charity - we spoke to several people who had been touched by Pancreatic Cancer.

Silent Auction

We have a great prize generously donated for the golfer in your life ‘Four ball at Breadsall Priory’ worth up to £240!
Contact me for my address to send a sealed bid to by 30 October, it could make a great birthday or Christmas present 🎁

Other fundraisers

To add to what we've achieved this past few months, £500 was raised from sale of plants (courtesy of my brother Dave) together with tea and cakes that had already gone to  Pancreatic Cancer Research before this page was created.

Also, Rob Chambers arranged a brilliant Soul & Motown evening, selling tickets to friends and family of Kate's and he'd bagged some great raffle prizes, everyone was so generous on the night, on a high because we had an opportunity to dress as 'grown ups', be together, hear the music of our youth and dance again whilst raising a massive £1,700 in memory of Kate, she would have been proud of him!

Last of the Summer parties

Thank you my lovely, friends, family, old colleagues and neighbours for coming to see me on a lovely sunny Saturday in my garden to share cake, drink tea and chat! We raised a whopping £200, can’t thank you enough💕

Thank you neighbours, friends and Italiano signore!

On a very wet Sunday afternoon my garden party for neighbours and friends turned into a kitchen table gathering, the tea and cake disappeared just as quickly anyway!
Lesson learned, I set up a tea party in the kitchen the next day for my lovely Italiano ladies and of course the sun shone! We enjoyed afternoon tea, covering many topics and even tried to speak a little Italian and our attempt at a selfie proved hilarious 😂
Thank you everyone who’s donated these past few days both online and given cash🙏
There will be an evening of Soul and Motown music and dancing on Friday 17 September, tickets £5 with proceeds to PCUK.

The lovely ladies of Allestree Woodlands Tennis!

What a hot afternoon we had yesterday, the lovely lively ladies turned out in their summer frocks, drank Pimms and ate delicious savouries and cake, spent money on the lucky/unlucky raffle and samosas! We totalled around £320 with money still being donated on line! Thank you all so much for being so generous 🥰

Tea and cake for a Fiver

I've had the first of a series of my garden parties - raised £200 + various other donations on this site - thank you all who came, we thought it might rain, in the end we were dodging the sun!
There are other ones throughout the summer - my tennis friends, Italian class, old (me that is) colleagues from the University, the lovely neighbours on my Street and a few others - so hope I get to see everyone I know somehow and get towards my target.
I'm thinking about walking 70 miles in my 70th year next year, in the Spring, not all in one go, but in stages, probably in Derbyshire, if you're at all interested in joining me for all the miles or just a few get in touch.

Thank you to my Sponsors
