I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

My brother, Dr Mark Thomas was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in May 2025.
As a much loved son, husband, dad, brother, uncle, friend and colleague to so many he will be greatly missed.
Mark was a huge fan of pushing himself at work in his sporting endeavours.
The Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (APAGBI) have established a new award, the 'extra mile' award in Mark's memory. As a paediatric consultant anaesthetist at GOSH for over 25 years,  he spent much of his career advancing the specialty through his passion for teaching and research. He spent many years on the council of the APAGBI and was president of the APAGBI in 2021-23.

The  award is designed to recognise anaesthetists with a paediatric interest in the UK and Ireland, who are clearly exceptional in all aspects of their clinical practice, but who also are driven to go “the extra mile” to deliver teaching and training, colleague support, well-being improvement and inclusivity for the wider department, or are recognised as the 'unsung hero' of the anaesthetic department.
With the award's inaugural presentation this June at the APAGBI's annual conference, that is to be held this year in Plymouth, I have decided to gravel bike ride to the conference and raise some funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK in the process. Mark himself often turned a conference into some form of adventure or bike trip, making the most of every opportunity.

Right now, half of people with pancreatic cancer die within three months of diagnosis. Families are left with only hope to hold onto. They need more.
Pancreatic Cancer UK bring more breakthroughs through research, more change through campaigning, and more support through their expert nurses. They are relentless because the disease is ruthless.

Please support it in any way you can.

Thanks in advance
