Support our challenge to end pancreatic cancer
This September, we're walking 84km for the 84 people who die from pancreatic cancer every 3 days in the UK.
Specifically we are walking in memory of both Zena Buckland (Auntie/Stepmum/Mother-in-law) and our close family friend Paul Webster.
Paul's story isn't ours to tell, but here is a little info about Zena as provided by Polly....
"It’s still totally unacceptable that she’s not here. She was really brilliant.
When Zena died, we received a letter from Pancreatic Cancer UK saying that they had had a spike in donations in her name. She’d have loved that.
Taking her for treatment, she was like a celebrity, she’d dress immaculately and put on her telephone voice for the day- even the receptionist at UCLA came out from behind the desk to hug her, and one of her nurses travelled from London to be at her funeral - I think that reflects the kind of person she was. She was so very appreciative of the care and kindness she was shown.
Zena took part in a trial and during that time, they had a really positive result - shrinking her inoperable tumour by 34% - she unreservedly gave permission for her details to be used in research. “Anything I can do to help people in the future”.
And so, in that spirit, and 9 years on we’re trying to do a little something to help."
