I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer

I am fundraising in memory of our beautiful mummy Maggie and equally beautiful Laura Pearce. They are both always in our thoughts and have left the biggest hole. 

Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. More than half of people die within three months of diagnosis.

Survival rates for other cancers have improved dramatically in recent years. But decades of underfunding mean we still don’t have the tests and treatments to tackle this disease. People with pancreatic cancer have been overlooked and ignored for far too long.

That’s why I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK and I'd really appreciate your support. Your donations will support vital, world-leading research, ensure specialist nurses are there to take more calls and fuel campaigns to drive positive change.

Our story - our mum

In May of this year, our beautiful mum, Maggie, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The news was a complete shock, coming entirely out of the blue. Up until that point, she had been in reasonably good health—vibrant, active, and living life to the full. She spent her time taking care of her grandchildren, supporting us, and enjoying a busy social life with friends. In fact, Mum was still working right up until the day before she was admitted to the hospital.

When we were told, just 2 days later, that the cancer had progressed too far for any effective treatment, our world fell apart. It was the kind of news you never expect, and nothing could have prepared us for the reality that lay ahead. But through it all, Mum was extraordinary. She remained so strong, not just for herself but for all of us. Her courage and grace in the face of such devastating news gave us the strength to focus on what truly mattered—making the most of every precious moment we had together.

From the moment of her diagnosis, Hannah and I made a pact: we were going to fill Mum’s life with as much love, joy, and laughter as possible, no matter how long or short her time left might be. We planned outings and experiences that would fill her final few weeks with happiness. We took her on a boat trip, had a party surrounded by family and friends, and went out for days filled with sunshine and smiles. She managed to get to Mevagissey Feast week to watch the fish parade and two of her grandchildren dance in the Flora dance, and we watched fireworks light up the sky, she even enjoyed a few well-deserved glasses of champagne. Every day was a celebration of her life, a tribute to the wonderful woman she had always been—strong, caring, and full of love.

Throughout Mum’s illness and after her passing, we have been incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by the most amazing people—family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers—who have offered us their support and kindness. Their generosity and compassion helped carry us through some of the hardest days, reminding us that we were never alone in our grief.

Mum wasn’t ready to leave this world. She still had so much life left to live, and it’s a feeling we carry with us every day. Her absence has left an indescribable void in our lives, and with each passing day, we miss her more deeply. But even in our grief, we hold onto the beautiful memories we created together, knowing that those moments of love and joy will stay with us forever.

Mum died on the 15th July 2024 just 7 weeks after her diagnosis 💜
