Why I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK
Pancreatic cancer is one of the toughest cancers there is — hard to diagnose, hard to treat, and hard to research. Tragically, more than half of those diagnosed die within just three months.
On 10 January 2026, I’ll be taking on one of the infamous Montane Spine Races, running 108 miles along the southern section of the Pennine Way, to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Every step is about increasing awareness and funding vital research, with the hope of giving more people a fighting chance against this devastating disease.
Many of you will remember that my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2024. Thanks to the proactive care of his GP, it was caught early, and he was able to undergo major surgery to remove the tumour, part of his pancreas, and his spleen.
Throughout 2025, Dad has shown incredible strength, spending much of the year in hospital undergoing chemotherapy. Sadly, as is so often the case with pancreatic cancer, the disease has proven relentless, and he is now receiving palliative care.
Last year, your generosity helped raise £3,000, enough to fund 115 hours of support from a specialist nurse on the Pancreatic Cancer UK support line — a lifeline for patients and families when they need it most.
I’d be hugely grateful for your support once again. Together, we can help fund research, provide vital care, and make a real difference for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
