I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

As some people may know, a tragedy struck our family as my grandad sadly lost his battle with this awful disease on 8th September 2021. Roy Dowd was the strongest, kindest and most loving man to walk this earth and was sadly taken from us too soon. He had a heart of gold and a sense of humour you would not believe.

Roy first was diagnosed at the end of October 2020 and began chemotherapy a short while after. This appeared to be working magnificently and he was responding to the treatment amazingly. After my grandad finished his first round of chemo we were hoping they would be able to remove his tumour however this was not the case. Although things were still looking positive as his tumour had shrunk by half! This gave us all hope for his next round of chemo in hopes it will have shrunk enough away to remove. Throughout all of this, he kept in good spirits and remained my funny caring grandad and kept going.

After he had completed his second round of chemotherapy, we were given the news that his tumour had now doubled in size. We were all gutted to say the least as things had gone so well the first time round. However he was more determined then ever to continue and beat this, and we believed he could do this no problem.

Sadly, my grandad fell ill at the beginning of August 2021 and was taken into hospital. Little did we know he wouldn’t make it home. He required two surgeries to help drain some bile build up which went successfully and we were still very hopeful. Unfortunately during his time in hospital and between waiting for surgeries etc, the cancer completely took over including his liver and kidneys. After a rapid deterioration, he was moved from the hospital to trinity hospice where a day later he peacefully passed away.

4 weeks is all it took to shatter our hearts. It’s going to take a long time to process that my once young, healthy, outgoing grandad is no longer here with us. He will no longer see the youngest of his grandchildren grow, walk me down an aisle or take our wonderful nanny to their favourite sunny beaches.

In spite of this, myself and my cousin have decided to raise money and awareness to help find a cure for a disease that has decimated our lives. To do so, we have decided that we will walk the short steep route of Pendle Hill as many times as we can in 12 hours! This will be by far the hardest most strenuous thing we have ever done but it is nothing in comparison to the torture my grandad suffered from this disease or the hurt we are all feeling since loosing him. We will be confirming a date ASAP however we thought we’d get the ball in motion for the fundraising.

Please please be kind enough to donate even the littlest amount so another family doesn’t have to go through what we have!

Thankyou❤️
