I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic Cancer UK is a charity close to my heart.

5 years ago, I lost my Nanna Olive to pancreatic cancer. There was no real warning, and no time for medical intervention other than palliative care.

Olive loved reading, and telling stories. One of her favourite authors was Daphne du Maurier, and reading her books has made me feel close to Olive again. She also loved making up stories. I remember being a small child, sitting in the small kitchen in her house and listening to tales of witches and magic while she made lunch or baked.

Books and stories are important. They allow us to escape, they allow us to imagine, and they connect us to others.

During her last two weeks between diagnosis and passing, when she couldn't speak or move, I sat by her side and read her stories, or invented ones about witches and magic. I'd like to think that helped somewhat. 

Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive form of cancer that is incredibly difficult to diagnose, often leaving those with a diagnosis with little to no time for treatment. Often, like in Olive's case, the only option is pain relief and to make the patient comfortable.

I am hoping to raise £150 in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK to support research, doctors and more, to help others not have to go through what Olive and her family did.
