I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Sally Polkey and Gail Jamieson hence the name Jampolines on a whim decided to enter the Race to the Castle on the 28th and 29th May 2022.  However we talked through this pretty immense challenge for us and decided we should try and raise funds for a charity.

Unfortunately Race to the Castle had to be cancelled so we transferred to Race to the Tower on 25/26th June - not quite as far but with huge elevations in both days making it much tougher.

We chose Pancreatic Cancer because  we were shocked to learn that half the people with Pancreatic Cancer die within 12 weeks of diagnosis, 77% die within one year, 93% die within 5 years and only 1% make it to 10 years. My husband Charles had kidney cancer and unfortunately four years later had a section of his pancreas removed after the kidney cancer metastasised.

We will be running the distance over 2 days starting at Stroud and completing 85 kilometres to arrive at Broadway Tower.

I have run 12 marathons and numerous other distances in the six years I’ve been running but this is a completely different challenge. It will require hours of winter and spring training to build up our endurance, improving nutrition for the long hours on our feet. So it makes sense to make a difference to other people if we can.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research.

Please support us and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer. Thank you for reading this, every penny makes a difference, you can make a difference.

My donations could fund...

19 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

8 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

We did it!!

What a weekend!! Definitely one of the biggest challenges of our lives. We set off at 8.03 on Saturday morning and the miles flew by running and walking through commons, meadows, woods, even a golf course and some beautiful Cotswold villages. We met some lovely people along the way and stopped at base camp for the night tired but excited too. Camping in a small tent wasn’t as bad as I expected but it was a very windy night so not much sleep was had.
On our way again at 6.25 am on Sunday morning and apart from a bit of rain we enjoyed cool sunshine. The route was well sign posted and the scenery stunning. We met some of my family at the bottom of Broadway Tower and walked to the finish together.
Together with Gail’s donations we have raised over a £1000 so a huge thank you for all your support. We couldn’t have done it without you

10 days to go……

So Gail and I are now in the taper phase getting ready for our race starting on the 25th June. Last Saturday I ran a Parkrun with a respectable time followed by a 9 mile run. Then on Sunday I ran The White Horse Half Marathon which was actually 16.5 miles. We are as fit as we can be and now it’s time to check our kit and make sure we’ve got everything we need. A huge thank you to everyone who has/is supporting Gail and I - we will do our best

Five weeks to go!!

So happy to have come first in my age/gender category at Manchester Marsthon in April. Since then I have had a two week break on a narrowboat which gave me an opportunity for more trail running training.
The time is flying by and I’m so thrilled to receive so many donations to support pancreatic cancer and have nearly reached my target. People are very kind.
I’m now running long runs on Saturday and Sunday to prepare for the big weekend.
Gail and are have been getting our heads together to organise travel, kit etc and it’s feeling very real….Not long now

Training is going well

I managed to run over 1300 miles during 2021 but missed out on many races which got cancelled. I have run one race this year, a half marathon and came first in my age category which is a lovely start to 2022.
Can you believe January is already behind us and we’re now into February. My training is going well. I continue to do Pilates and swimming and now we have a young dog I’m walking extra miles each day. I’ve added strength and conditioning training a couple of times so I reckon  I’ll be ready for Manchester Marathon on the 3rd April.
Then I’ve got to knuckle down so I’m ready to tackle Race to the Castle at the end of May with my good friend Gail.
My fundraising is slowly growing and I am so grateful for all the support and donations to date. You are all stars and know your money is going to a much needed cause. Thank you xx
