Help beat Pancreatic Cancer!

By Rebecca Grattage

I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer.

I am training for the Brighton Marathon on 19th April & would like to use the platform to raise awareness about and fundraise for Pancreatic Cancer UK. 💜 Pancreatic Cancer has the lowest survival of all common cancers, with five-year survival less than 7%. ‼️ Five-year survival of pancreatic cancer in the UK lags behind the rest of the world, with the UK ranking 29th out of 33 countries with comparable data. See for more info: https://www.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/statistics/

Please donate if you can, and share information about Pancreatic Cancer!

My donations could fund...

89 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

40 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Thank you & Marathon update

Dear all,
I hope you are well and safe in these challenging times.
I am writing to thank you all again for your support to Pancreatic Cancer UK. Your support means so much and is really making a difference to those affected by this terrible disease.
Unfortunately due to Covid-19, the Brighton marathon I was training for has been postponed until 20th September 2020. Given the uncertainty of the situation, I'm not even sure if it will go ahead then. However, I have decided to train again anyway, and I will run a marathon around my neighbourhood on 20th September if it is delayed again.
Thank you very much again for your support and for helping to raise awareness of Pancreatic Cancer!
Rebecca

Why is pancreatic cancer difficult to diagnose?

Pancreatic cancer can be difficult to diagnose. This is because it doesn’t usually cause many specific symptoms in the early stages, and symptoms can be quite vague. Symptoms can also be caused by more common conditions, such as:

• pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
• irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining)
• hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
• gallstones.

Symptoms of pancreatic cancer may include:
• tummy (abdominal) and back pain
• unexplained weight loss
• indigestion
• loss of appetite
• changes to your bowel habits
• jaundice (yellow skin and eyes, and itchy skin).

Symptoms vary in different people and you may not have all of these symptoms. If you have jaundice, go to your GP without delay. If you have any of the other symptoms, you don’t know why you have them, and they last four weeks or more, go to your GP.

Doctors will need to rule out all the possible causes for your symptoms. This
means that you may need several different tests to help diagnose pancreatic
cancer, and it may take some time to get a diagnosis.
