PCAM Challenge 24

I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

Following a recent family diagnosis of pancreatic cancer I want to do what I can to help raise funds for research but also raise awareness.

That’s why I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK and I'd really appreciate your support. Your donations will support vital, world-leading research, ensure specialist nurses are there to take more calls and fuel campaigns to drive positive change.

Together, we will bring more than hope to people affected by pancreatic cancer.

My donations could fund...

29

hours with a nurse on our support line

14

hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Day 30 (the final day) 🎉

A lovely final run to celebrate, with Mamma, Coney, the kids and of course buddy the elf! Followed by breakfast at the Loch to celebrate successfully completing the challenge!

Day 29

The penultimate day and another lovely sunrise

Day 28

Another lovely frosty morning run, seeing the first sunshine rays of the day

Day 27

A frosty morning run

Day 26

A windy lunchtime run! My legs are still aching from the weekends rugby!

Day 25

A very tough and slow run to recover from yesterdays rugby match

Day 24

Oops, I accidentally got lost around the streets of Walker. Not what I needed as game prep for our local rugby derby later today 😬

Day 23

Only 1 week left to go! No more sliding on the ice, instead I was dancing round the puddles!

Day 22

A tough lunchtime run

Day 21

Still blooming freezing and icy 🥶

Day 20

My first run in the snow ❄️🏃2 thirds of the way through the challenge! Just 10 days to go!

Snow ain’t gonna stop me now!

Day 19

So icy this morning, I had to stick to the main roads so I could run and not ice skate. At least it wasn’t the snow that had been forecast 🥶🏃⛸️

Day 18

First frosty morning run with dragons breath and pink legs 🧊🏃

Action shot of day 17!

My mum came to see me at the finish of today’s run to cheer me on and snap this beauty! 🤣 Helped me up the pace for the final part of the run as a reminder of why I am taking part in this challenge

Day 17

Last day running up that hill in Kent as heading back up north tonight. Had to stop for lots of cars on the lanes which has reduced my activity time on Strava 😡

Day 16

The vertical hill did not get any easier today! But a rewarding way to start the day

Day 15

Visiting my parents for the weekend before my mum starts her treatment plan. Lovely to spend time with them. The down side is the vertical hill to run up, just to get out of the valley where they live! 🥵🏃

Day 14

2 weeks done!!! 🙌 I am also so pleased to have reach my fundraising target of £500 🎉 A huge thank you to everyone who has kindly donated, it really does mean the world. Would love to go way beyond my target as every penny really does make a difference. Today was my first time doing a lunch time run at work. I returned to the office looking like a tomato 🍅 to a round of applause and a home made medal constructed from a chocolate coin! 🏅

Day 13

Unlucky for some, and this one run felt like a slow grind. But another day complete 💪🏻

Day 12

Another red sky in the morning, made for a nice backdrop to what felt like a very mundane run.

Day 11

A tough run, the morning after playing rugby. My calf felt like a tight ball. Lovely red sky though.

Day 10

Morning run as a warm up for the rugby match later. Nice run around Iris brickfield. Got a huge smile and thumbs up from an older gentleman walking his dog - made my day!

Challenge t-shirt and new trainers!

With the arrival of my fundraising pack, I was raring to get going in my new challenge t-shirt! I also treated myself to some brand new running shoes to replace my old ones which were giving me blisters and falling apart!

Day 8

Took my chance to have a nosey at the new centurion housing development near Wallsend golf club, think I nearly ran into the building site at one point 😬

Day 9

Great to start the run with a little buddy as Bella was keen to do a lap of the block with me. Today was also my first day trying out my brand new running trainers.. I think they must have rocket boosters 🚀 in as they did wonders for my pace. My first time of completing a with an under 9 minute mile average pace! 🏃💪🏻🎉

Day 7

A day working from home today looking after the poorly bairn. Managed to nip out when Coney was back for her lunch break! Seems it was my fastest yet, although felt like I was running in treacle!

Day 6

Another morning run, this time the very boring loop up to the coast road, which is exactly 3 miles, but dull as dishwater!

Day 5

A morning run before work. Finished off the previous nights podcast of Sh**ged Married Annoyed.

Day 4

Had to wait till the kids were in bed before I could go out for today’s run, so a late one in the dark. Needed some light hearted comedy to get me round so an episode of Sh**ged Married Annoyed did the trick.

Day 3

Today was a tough one, my legs felt like lead. I listened to another episode of the uncanny podcast to get me through it.

Day 2

After enjoying one too many glasses of wine at an engagement party the night before, this run felt a tough one, not helped by my old running trainers giving me blisters.

First run done

First run done and the sprained ankle held up well. Even got a handmade medal from my youngest Ben when I returned, and he wanted to join in so went for a run round the block in his Pj’s

Running my way through November

Due to a very recent family diagnosis of pancreatic cancer I want to do what I can to help raise awareness and help to focus more funding towards what is currently an under funded cancer type.

By running every day in November I hope to spread a purple wave of awareness of this cruel disease and help
raise money to fund more research. Taking on this challenge to help play a small part in giving my family and other families with pancreatic cancer diagnosis more hope.
