Pedalling for Pancreatic Cancer UK

By Nigel Dumont-Jones

Nige & Jane are fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Shwmae pawb, Hello everyone.

A very dear friend of ours has recently had a diagnosis for pancreatic cancer, so we're raising money for the charity that supports the fight against this horrible disease.

We have signed up to do the Mendips Lakes and Lumps cycling sportive, on the 11th of June. Its a great, 75km ride but trust us there are more Lumps than Lakes so its challenging...and have you seen the state of our knees?!

We would really appreciate your support and help by donating whatever you can to Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic cancer is tough, but Pancreatic Cancer UK is taking it on. They’re here for people now, and funding research and campaigning to improve the future.

Together, we’ll take it on.

Diolch yn fawr iawn, thank you.

Nigel & Jane

Mendips Lakes and Lumps sportive ride 11th of June 2023

Well, that was a fun, but really tough Mendips Lakes and Lumps ride 😊👍.
74km and over 900m of climbing 🥵. During the ride, we climbed up through the spectacular & dramatic Cheddar Gorge, around the very picturesque lakes south of Chew Stoke (where the organisers had arranged a halfway pit-stop 🥪🍔🍰☕😋), then on to several challenging climbs around Ubley and Blagdon. We finished off with the dreaded Burrington Combe 🤯, 5km of continuous, steep climbing but through lovely scenery, part of the 10km run in to the finish.
A warm and humid day too, so we now need to recover with food and drink 😋.
Diolch o galon eto. Thanks again for all your support in raising so much money 👏👏.
The fundraising link is available for anyone who still wants to donate to Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Diolch yn fawr iawn 💜💜🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️

Training Ride #3 Hill, Gloucescestershire 04.06.23

Today's big training ride was to Hill Village hall, where, on the first Sunday of the month, they hold a cake sale, attracting people in droves...what a surprise😍😋.
Luckily for us Hill is not  ON a hill, but to spice it up, we rode from Chepstow, over the Severn Bridge and carried on with a 65km windy loop, tough with 600+m of climbing.
I ended up on the deck though, with a stupid lowish speed fall...so its
5 (cakes to Nige 🎂🍰😋)
4 (cakes to Jane🎂😋)
3 (grazes to N's knee 🦵🤕)
2 (ways across the Severn 🌀)
1 (note to self......unclip your cleats before coming in to land 🤣🙄)
0 (punctures 👍)
A great ride 🚴‍♂️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🚴‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
We're getting closer to our fundraising target, diolch o galon i chi gyd 💜

Training Ride #2 Vale of Glamorgan 01.06.23

Another great training ride today. Headed out west into the Vale of Glamorgan, with a fuel stop at Llantwit beach for chips before heading back. It was so windy again today and with some steep climbs, we're knackered now. 57km and nearly 700m climbed. Well on the way in our plan for the pre-event rides and for reaching our fund raising target. 🚴‍♂️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🚴‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

Training Ride #1 Gwent 29.05.23

We have just under two weeks to go before we ride the Mendips Lakes and Lumps sportive.

To prepare for the day, we've been on some training rides....yesterday we did a 56km loop through the lanes of Gwent, in glorious sunshine, but with an almost constant headwind.

We'll be doing another training ride later this week, once the knees have recovered...a hilly 60km in the Vale of Glamorgan.

After that we plan to do a longer ride from Chepstow, over the Severn Bridge to the village of Hill, in Gloucestershire, with the incentive of their fab cake sale event to fuel us for the return trip.

We are so grateful for all your donations so far.

Thank you again so much for supporting PCUK,

Nige and Jane
