In Memory of our Beautiful Nan Rose💜

In July of this year we got the worst news imaginable. My precious Nan suddenly became jaundiced and was rushed into hospital where we were told she had Pancreatic cancer and she had very little time left. She underwent a surgical procedure to fit a stent to help resolve the jaundice and came home soon after. The whole family was left stunned and devastated from the news but it only got worse from there when a frightening complication developed and my darling Nan got an infection which quickly deteriorated into sepsis. She was admitted to hospital again and the medical team said we must prepare to lose her in a matter of hours. The family rushed to her side and kept vigil sleeping beside her, watching her, desperately hoping we’d get more time and that she’d rally, and she did for a time, against all odds. My brave Nan fought hard and eventually she was able to come home again. It was then that we all realised how much this cruel disease coupled with sepsis had truly affected her. She walked into the hospital that day she was jaundiced and in a few short weeks, she was unable to even sit out of bed.

Not long after, our beautiful Rosemarie left us.

Looking back, there were signs that something wasn’t right but these things could easily have been a number of other problems. Pancreatic cancer is often there for many years before it makes itself known and by that time it’s far too late. There weren’t even any options to keep it at bay for a while when we found out. I’m doing this challenge in loving memory of my Nan and to help fund the tests and treatments for this form of cancer so that hopefully we can help prevent other families going through the heart break that we’ve experienced these last few months.

My Nan has left a devoted husband of 50 years, a son and daughter who love and miss her more than words can say, three adoring granddaughters who are completely lost without there Nan and a son and daughter in law who thought the world of her among more family, extended family and cherished friends than we could possibly mention.

So with November being Pancreatic Awareness Month, I’ve decided to walk 24 miles in 24 days in November in different locations to spread awareness of this horrible cancer. I will be posting 24 locations in the next 24 days.

Number 24 as 24 people die from pancreatic cancer every day. Please sponsor me and help me shine a light on this cruel disease I’d really appreciate your support.

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. More than half of people die within three months of diagnosis.

Survival rates for other cancers have improved dramatically in recent years. But decades of underfunding mean we still don’t have the tests and treatments to tackle this disease. People with pancreatic cancer have been overlooked and ignored for far too long.

Your donations will support vital, world-leading research, ensure specialist nurses are there to take more calls and fuel campaigns to drive positive change.

Together, we will bring more than hope to people affected by pancreatic cancer.
