PCUK Cycle Bangkok to Phuket

By Lisa Harrison

I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK. I'd love it if you'd support me and my fundraising to help fund early diagnosis research breakthroughs that will transform the future.

With pancreatic cancer, silence is deadly. It’s a disease that gets too little attention and funding and far too many people are dying. Half of people diagnosed die within 3 months. Research will transform the future for pancreatic cancer. Thank you for supporting me!

My donations could fund...

21 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

9 hours of early diagnosis research

The Challenge is on! Day 7

We've made our cycling challenge !!!! We've covered approx 309km (192 miles) in 5 days!

Now it's time to relax!

The Challenge is on! Day 5 & 6

Day 5
We had a free day to recover so we hired a moped for the day and went exploring, followed by another Thai massage and happy hour turned into happy evening with the whole group!

Day 6
Well they say it comes in 3's ... we had a 2.5hr transfer further south unfortunately one of the mini buses had a tyre blow out, the photographer was jumped on my a monkey 🐒 at a temple which bit him badly he's now in hospital, the Americans got lost as did the New Zealanders and I had ants in my pants literally 🤣😅🤣 Definitely a day we'll not forget!

We still completed the 50km cycle, the scenery today was beautiful through more plantations and villages. We ended the day on the top of a Dam!

We arrived at the forset lodge in the dark but have woken to the most spectacular views!

Cycled circa 240Km so far!

The Challenge is on! Day 4

Day 4
Today is actually World Pancreatic Cancer Day
So it feels even more appropriate sharing awareness.

We left the hotel just after 8 this morning and started our longest cycle of the week. This morning we covered just over 50Km before lunch... !!!

However, as soon as we set of the monsoon rains 🌧  began ...!!! Again 😆 🤣

The cycle took us through rubber plantations where we saw how it was harvested, palm oil plantations, coconut farms and remote Thai villages.

Some of the hills in the rain were certainly a challenge, my knees felt like they were really shouting at me but there was no time to stop!"

Lunch was seriously hot typical Thai food, the views of the beach were beautiful and well worth the wait .... we soon sat off for the final 20Km push ...

We finished the day at a Buddhist shrine on the hillside  we were grateful for the ice cold fresh coconut and cold towels!

70km today can't quite believe we did it!

If you are able to support with a small donation please follow the link at the top of the page. Awareness is key and what it's about for us... 🦋💜❤️🦋💜❤️🦋💜❤️

The Challenge is on! Day 3

Day 3
This morning we started with a mini bus transfer heading further south  ...

As soon as we set off on our bikes the monsoon rain came down for approx 30Km we literally couldn't see our hand in front of our faces but we still carried on !!!!

First pit stop for coffee was in a small Scandinavian Settlement. We passed through farmland and coconut plantations seeing water buffalo, monkeys, kingfisher and more exotic birds I'm yet to learn names of!

We finished for a late lunch on the beach approximately 20Km from Ban Krut ... We aimed for 70Km today but sadly the monsoon stopped play at 52Km  ... !!!

❤️🦋💜❤️🦋💜❤️🦋💜

The Challenge is on! Day 2

Day 2 .... 60K completed today!
We started the morning cycling further south along fantastic cycle paths heading toward the coast. On the way we stopped at a pineapple plantation where we had time to sample the freshest of pineapple 🍍!

We then continued another 20km toward the fishing villages and eventually ended up on the beach for authentic Thai lunch.

After lunch we hopped on board a small boat and head around the headland where we made a 1.5km trek up the mountain to the Phraya Nakhon Caves!

I can't actually believe the distance we've covered today on bike, foot, boat and car ... its certainly a challenge and theres so much more to come!

The Challenge is on!

Total Cycling: 285km / 177mi over 8 Days ...

The journey will take Tim & I from the vibrant national capital of Bangkok, down the calm waters of the Gulf Coast and over through the stunning Khao Sok National Park to the surf coast of the Andaman, concluding on the island of Phuket.

This cycle tour is almost entirely conducted on smooth tarmac roads with the old hill and twists and curves as we go!

Cycling is something we both enjoy we can't wait to take on this challenge. We can explore a beautiful country whilst we raise pennies for PCUK and remember my beautiful Step Mum Coral who we miss every day 💜💔🦋 x x x
