Jayne's Story
Almost a year ago my mum was told she had diabetes, this seemed a bit odd so thank goodness my mum asked how this could just develop. The doctors decided to take further tests only to find out that it was due to a tumor sitting on her pancreas. She was later diagnosed with stage 3 locally advanced pancreatic cancer, no chance of it shrinking, no operation to remove it, just endless rounds of strong chemo and radiotherapy to prevent it growing further.
My mum is not going to be cured, there is no way this tumor is going away, and I want to raise enough money to prevent any other family from having to go through this. This cancer is known as the silent killer due to the lack of symptoms and most people only realising they have it when it’s in its later stages. If we can diagnose it sooner then maybe we can prevent as many cases as we can from being incurable.
My mum means so much to me and the thought of not having her around is something I am really struggling with. She is incredibly strong and a true inspiration, it seems so unfair that this has happened to such a caring and upbeat person.
My aim is to raise £650 by cycling 100 miles in two days with my fiance. The route is going to be challenging with an elevation of almost 6000 ft. Neither of us are strong cyclists so this will be grueling, but not as grueling as the effect chemo has had on my mothers body and health.
