Stepping Up for a Cure

By Kelly Walters

I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Earlier this month, my Dad fell ill and was admitted to hospital with suspected gallstones. Within days of being admitted, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Hearing the word cancer makes you think the worst, even though survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers. Sadly, for pancreatic cancer, this isn't the case and reading the shocking statistics left us wondering what happens next.

Currently, there is no cure for the later stages of pancreatic cancer so, once detected, it's often too late. Only 1 in 5 people with pancreatic cancer are diagnosed in the early stages. My Dad is incredibly fortunate to fall under this small percentage and he underwent major surgery within two weeks of his diagnosis.

In August, I am walking 100 miles in efforts to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK. The money will help fund nurses working on support lines, go towards developing a simple test to diagnose pancreatic cancer earlier and fund research to make an early diagnosis a reality.

Thank you in advance for your support and donations, Your kindness and generosity will bring hope to families, including mine, facing this awful disease. If you're unable to donate, simply sharing my post or even joining me on a walk will be massively appreciated.
