In November 2020, I lost my wonderful Dad to pancreatic cancer.
From diagnosis to him passing away, it was 4 weeks. He was only 68 years old and had not long retired.
To say we as a family were devastated, is an understatement. He has left a huge hole in all of our lives and two years on, we miss him more than words can say.
I felt like I needed to do something. Anything to channel my grief. Anything to help raise awareness of the awful disease that took him away from us, far too soon.
My bright idea was to run the Oxford Half Marathon in October last year, to raise much needed money for the Pancreatic Cancer UK charity. However, 5 days before I was due to run it, I caught Covid. I was gutted as I felt I’d let down all the people who had kindly sponsored me.
It’s safe to say Oxford and I had unfinished business! So, on Sunday 16th October I’m doing it….I’m running the Oxford Half Marathon! And I’ve roped in my good friend Woj Nowakowski to run it with me!
After a busy summer, training’s been sporadic…but I’ll get across that finish line, even if I have to crawl (or Woj has to drag me!!)
Knowing that family and friends already sponsored last year will certainly spur me on. And for anyone else who would like to sponsor this time round, I’ll be very grateful.
Running 13.1 miles isn’t going to be easy. But I’m doing this for you, Dad xx
