I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer.

For those of you that don’t know, I’ve been diagnosed with a pre-cancerous cyst on my Pancreas which has caused me unknown grief for the past few years. Due to the nature, at some point once COVID is over, it needs to be removed before it turns into the big C. Without the research into Pancreatic Cancer, who knows if it may have been different. As most of you know, I’m not exactly the fittest person at the moment and although 24 miles a week doesn’t seem a lot to some, to me it is (the original suggestion was 24 a month but I smashed that this week already!). I would thoroughly appreciate any donation - I know times are tough at the moment!

Thanks, Kate

My donations could fund...

17 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

8 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Iron Woman

Today was a weird one! My iron levels were low and I was anaemic, picked up on the bloods from last week. So today I had to go and have an infusion (which sounds more glam than it is) to top me up as Cyril seems to be depleting my supplies.
I am seriously hoping that it improves my energy levels as I have been super tired over the past couple of weeks. It is one step forward, with a further scan in July to check sizing and hopefully a date. It should all be done before September which is great.
Anyway, the cycling is still going strong, and hoping to carry on with it for as long as possible!
Thank you all for the donations that you have made, it really has made a huge difference.
Lots of love xx

Drained! But staying positive

Had a bit of a set back today! After being in excruciating pain last night and having to take all the good pain relief, I started today thinking that by bedtime I would have a date and a count down to finally crossing the finish line. However that wasn’t meant to be. I had a call this afternoon and was told that due to COVID, even though the op is classed as urgent it is still going to take a lot of time. I will need a further scan in the middle of July to check on the progress but that it isn’t yet ‘the right time’. I will confess, I was completely devastated. And still am. Full of questions too, like why even put me through the pre op today and give me false hope?
But then you realise there is a lot worse going on in the world. That originally I was told it would be another 3 months when I spoke to the consultant in May. It can’t be changed. Absolutely nothing I can do about it. What I can do however, instead of doing for a June challenge, is to go for an indefinite challenge.

So 24 miles (at least) a week will continue right up until the op date. Whenever that may be. And when the time is right, I guess the time is right!

Update!

It has been a day of information today! I have spoken to the nurse who will be my care manager and done all the necessary paperwork over the phone and also the anaesthetist who was happy that I am able to go ahead with the procedure which is really good news. Next step now is the blood tests etc on Tuesday for the final part of the Pre-Op and then I will get a date through. It's nerve wracking and a bit scary hearing about all the things they do during the procedure, but it was encouraging that they are going to try and operate using keyhole surgery instead of open surgery which is great and a quicker healing time. It will still be a tough recovery, but the bonus is that I have been told to carb load the day before - woohoo! Any excuse to eat pizza (and apparently doughnuts??).
Second update is that my beautiful cycling jersey arrived today in the post! I had a lovely email from the fundraising team and they said they wanted to send one so I'm really happy at how quickly it came and looking forward to wearing it out when it finally stops raining!
