Karen, Em-j and friends fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK

By Karen Spencer

I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

As many of you know I was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer earlier this year at just 42 years of age and a 7 year old daughter. Given just 11 months to live in February 2022 I am determined to not only beat this awful statistic but to raise as much awareness and money to help fight this terrible disease.

To start our fund raising journey myself and friends will be competing in a triathalon on Monday the 24th October and Em-j will be doing a mini triathalon on the same day.

This in itself is going to be a huge challenge for me as I am suffering with neuropathy from my chemotherapy in arms and legs but as long as I am here to fight another day I can fight these challenges too.

Please keep an eye out on this blog and Facebook for future fundraising events as well.

Your support and well wishes are all greatly received 💜💜

My donations could fund...

342 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

153 hours of early diagnosis research

Let's get swimming! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️

So today so many amazing Ludgershall villagers and friends are getting their swimsuits on and taking on the epic feet of swimming the distance of the channel at Bicester Leisure Centre.

Good luck everyone and thank you so much for helping to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

See you at the poolside xx

Ludgershall swims the Channel 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️👙👙

The amazing Karen Wagland, fellow villager, friend and name twin has been hard at work organising an amazing fundraiser for Pancreatic Cancer UK.  Karen along with her husband and a number of fellow villagers are swimming the distance of the channel (a whopping 21 miles) to raise money for this important cause.

The event is taking place at Bicester Leisure Centre on Sunday the 26th of February from 2pm.

If anyone would like to make a donation in support of the Ludgershall swimathon team then please follow the link.  All donations are greatly received.

Thanks for reading 💜

Racenight and exceeding £5000 initial target!

A massive thank you to everyone who attended the Ludgershall Race night a few weekends ago. What a fantastic night and we raised well over £2000 for the two charities. Pancreatic cancer uk and the hummingbird cancer support centre in launton. If you or anyone you know has or has been affected by cancer the Hummingbird Centre are a wonderful resource to help not only the patient but caregivers as well. The volunteers do an amazing job and I know how much they have guided me through my journey so far.

I hope one and all had plenty of fun and laughter at the event and again massive thank you for raffle prizes, Rob Holt for hosting, Emily and Nick from the bull and butcher behind the bar, Julie and Becca running the tote, Tracey Platt, Kelly and Catherine for sorting the afternoon teas and a special mention to my daughter Em-j for taking photos and giving me lots of cuddles through the night!

We have now smashed my initial target of £5000 and we have lots more arranged for next year. Please keep supporting me for a cause very close to me and my family 💜💜💜

Ludgershall at the races!

Saturday night is bringing all the fun of the races to Ludgershall! There is video horseracing where people can have a little flutter, afternoon tea and the chance to get suited and booted just like a day at Ascot or Cheltenham. All proceeds are going to Pancreatic Cancer UK and the Hummingbird Cancer Support Centre in Launton. Thank you to everyone who is coming along I can't wait to see you all.

We are currently also organising a few other fundraising events including a hike up snowdon and a brush party where we have someone teaching us how to do a painting while drinking prosecco (what could possibly go wrong 🤷‍♀️). There is also a swimathon being organised which should take place in February.

Please keep an eye on this page for updates on our fundraising journey 💜💜

We did it!

A massive thank you to my fellow triathletes who absolutely smashed it last week and a special well done to my daughter Em-J for completing her mini triathalon. Mummy is so very proud of you.

I am continuing to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK and the Hummingbird Cancer Support centre in launton with the next fund raiser being a race night on the 19th November 2022.

I am also getting a team together to climb mount snowdon next spring.

All donations received so far are hugely appreciated.

November is pancreatic cancer awareness month, please ensure you and your loved ones know the symptoms. Early diagnosis may just help you beat this and save your life 💜💜💜

One week to go!

A massive thank you to everyone who has kindly donated. We are very close to the £2000 mark with the online and offline donations which is incredible!

Please remember November is pancreatic cancer awareness month. If you or someone you know is experiencing one of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer please see your GP and get it checked out. Early diagnosis is so very rare but can be life saving 💜💜

November - pancreatic cancer awareness month

Not long to go till we take part in our triathalon. Thank you for all the kind donations made to date.

Next month is Pancreatic cancer awareness month, wear your purple with pride 💜.

Many people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer do so once it is too late. Symptoms are difficult to spot. I suffered with severe abdominal pain which was initially put down as acid reflux and then a hiatus hernia. Most people with this disease their first signs are jaundice. If something doesn't feel right push your GP for extra tests before it is too late. The only cure for pancreatic cancer is the whipple surgery. Only 20% of those diagnosed are eligible for the surgery. This needs to change with earlier diagnosis!

Pancreatic cancer uk are trying to improve this and your donations will help raise awareness.

Thank you 💜💜💜

Wow! £1000 raised!!

A massive thank you to those who have been kind enough to sponsor myself and my triathalon team. We have raised over £1000 already which is incredible.

Training for the triathalon challenge was due to start this weekend but I have unfortunately been struck down with covid which along with my chemo symptoms has really put me on my backside a little. Fingers crossed I will feel more human in the next few days to get back in the saddle.

Watch this space for updates of where we will be completing each part of our triathalon challenge and timings. We would love to see some familiar faces while we are out on course.
