Jane's run 31 miles in August Challenge

By Jane Thomas

I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

I will be running at least 1 mile every day in August, and as I am preparing for a 10k in 4 weeks time, some of those days will be further.

I am doing this in honour of my Uncle Chris who passed away in June after such a brave battle with this terrible disease. I would like to raise as much money as possible which will go towards research into early diagnosis, this may ultimately help prevent others from suffering the way Chris did. I would also like to say a big thank you to all those who have already generously donated, THANK YOU Xx

My donations could fund...

53 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

23 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Day 9

Fastest mile in a very long time … 9m 36s 🥳

First 7 days

I have run a total of 13 miles this week, with just 1 day walking due to niggle in ankle. My miles are getting faster, with yesterday’s being the fastest at 9m 59s. Bring on next weeks running 🥳

Day 3

Lovely run in the rain this evening. I did an extra couple of miles towards my 10k training, so ran a fraction under 5k, which is 3 miles. Bit more speedy pants today :0)

Day 2

Knocked 20 seconds off yesterday’s mile, and it didn’t rain! Win win!

What have I let myself in for?!

Yesterdays 1 mile was hot and sticky, today, 2nd August there is rain forecast. That will not put me off! My promise to my Uncle Chris is that I will get out there every single day in August, rain or shine, and he will be right behind me in spirit, shouting 'dig deep Jane'

Just over two weeks to go.

On bank holiday Monday I ran 9 miles. It was a very hot run, on very little fuel! The first 6 miles were fine, but the last 3 were painful, but I did it :0)
I visited Chris the day before and we were able to take him  for a short stroll. It was a beautiful warm sunny day, and Chris's legs in shorts were a sight to behold!
This weekend I am planning to do my longest pre race training run, 10 miles! I will be up smartish to catch the cool air, I love the sunshine, but not whilst I'm running!

7 miles ✔️

Last Thursday I increased my distance a little and managed 7 miles. This felt like a big psychological step for me, my longest run in nearly 2 years.
I ran walked the distance, ran for 9 mins walked for 1, and felt surprisingly comfortable.
Only 5 weeks to go till the big day 🥳🏃‍♀️🙏
Visiting my uncle Chris and Aunty Gilly today, lovely to be able to spend some time and share some hugs, and Aunty Gilly makes the BEST rhubarb crumble 😋🥰😘

In the fond memory of Chris, a real figter and true runner. “Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.”
