Walking 70 Bridges

By Heather Ashton

We're walking 70 Bridges for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Heather, Dave and Adam aim to walk over at least 70 bridges throughout this spring and summer. Each walk will take in one or more bridges over three or four miles. We've opted for 70 because it is our average age and we aim to complete the challenge within seven months.  We hope to raise awareness and donations to support Pancreatic Cancer UK.  To start our challenge we had a three mile walk involving some very steep steps and crossing the Tintagel Bridge in Cornwall.

Sadly Dave died unexpectedly just eight days after we'd walked over our 15th bridge - Bromfield Bridge -on the 9th April.
On the morning of the 17th April we'd discussed going down to London the next week to walk the bridges over the Thames.  Dave wanted to do that trip before the caravan season was upon us.  He later went out to a bowling match and never came home.  It has taken Adam and me a year to pick up the challenge again but thought the anniversary of the week of his death was the time to get down to London. We walked all 16 bridges between Hammersmith and Tower Bridge. We will continue throughout the next few weeks to reach our target of 70. We would love people to join us.
When we have walked our last bridge we will embark on Dave's next idea - to walk to 70 interesting trees.  He'll always be walking with us.
