I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. Every day in the UK 24 people die from pancreatic cancer, and more than half of people die within three months of diagnosis.

Survival rates for other cancers have improved dramatically in recent years. But decades of underfunding mean we still don’t have the tests and treatments to tackle this disease.

In January 2020, my uncle Antonio 'Tony' Romano began experiencing stomach and back pain. What seemed minor at first turned out to be a Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis on January 31st. The cancer had already spread to his liver, and we were told he had only weeks to live. Sadly, he passed away just 18 days later, on February 18th.

Even during this time, my uncle remained selfless, focusing only on his family.

So with November being Pancreatic Awareness Month, I’ve decided to set myself a challenge that I know will push me—running 24 miles in 24 days in November. It might not sound like much to some, but for me, it’s a real struggle, and that’s exactly why I’m doing it. Every mile I run is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research in memory of my uncle.

I'd really appreciate your support. Your donations will support vital, world-leading research, ensure specialist nurses are there to take more calls and fuel campaigns to drive positive change.

My Challenge for Challenge 24

I’ve decided to set myself a challenge that I know will push me—running 24 miles in 24 days in November. It might not sound like much to some, but for me, it’s a real struggle, and that’s exactly why I’m doing it. Every mile I run is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research in memory of my uncle.

His strength and selflessness, even during his most difficult days, inspires me to push through my own challenges. Running has never come easy to me, but I want to show that we can overcome our personal struggles when we’re driven by something bigger than ourselves. By the end of the 24 days, I’ll have run 24 miles—and hopefully raised more awareness about pancreatic cancer and the importance of research.

Whether it’s an easy day or a hard one, every mile is meaningful because it brings me closer to my goal of honoring those we’ve lost and supporting those still fighting.
