I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

My name is Emma, I will be skydiving in July alongside my lifelong friend Katey. We have decided to do this to raise awareness and money for Pancreatic cancer UK. This is to honour my amazing, kind-hearted and hardworking dad Tony.

My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 inoperable pancreatic cancer on the 22nd of November 2023 at the age of 56. This came as a massive shock to us as a family as my dad has always led an active and healthy lifestyle. My dad’s diagnosis had only come to light through becoming jaundice and visiting A&E after a few trips to the doctors and being advised he was pre-diabetic. We were told my dad only had 12 months to live, luckily for us with my dad’s determination and strength he is still fighting this horrible disease 16 months on. My dad has spent the last year fighting infections which took away both his Christmas’s, a long harsh course of chemotherapy and a specialist radiotherapy treatment in Manchester.

We had high hopes that all the treatment had been successful but on his latest scan we were told that his cancer had now metastasised and had spread to his liver and that his prognosis was 3-6 months and that he would need to start chemotherapy again and continue this treatment indefinitely.

From research and reading other people's stories we do feel incredibly lucky as a family to have had this time with my dad as a lot of families don’t have that opportunity due to late diagnosis and this cancer being so aggressive. Although raising these funds won’t necessarily help my dad, they may help someone to get an earlier diagnosis or to receive support from specialist nurses whilst fighting this terrible disease.

Any support, donations and awareness shared will be appreciated greatly and will go to a great cause to hopefully make someone’s life a little more bearable after a terrible diagnosis.
