I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Every single day in the UK alone, 24 people lose their lives to it. That’s 8,760 families who will be affected in 2020 alone. As you know, sadly, my family became one of those statistics on the 21st of January. A loving mum, cherished grandma, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend lost her battle in a mere 7 months, that’s all the time mum had left to this silent killer, so silent that nobody saw it coming, least of all mum.
40 years ago, the five year survival rate for pancreatic cancer was a mere 3%. Do you know what those statistics are today? A mere 5-8%! I have been asked several times about where donations can be sent in mum’s memory and I can’t think of a better charity.
In order to raise vital funds, I am also proposing setting myself a challenge. The important number here is 24! 24 people will die tomorrow from pancreatic cancer, 24 the day after and so on until these odds improve.
With your help, I am looking to raise funds for research and hopefully help save lives and improve those statistics.
So, starting on Wednesday March 11th until Friday April 10th, over those 31 days, my personal challenge is to walk a total of 20,000 steps a day for 24 days and 24,000 steps for 7 days, keeping the all important number 24 at the centre of it all. Every day I walk will be not only for mum, but also for the 24 people who will lose their lives to pancreatic cancer each and every day during my challenge.
