I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer sufferers.  Robert died 5 months after his diagnosis.  Like most people the disease was at late stage as it doesn't show symptoms earlier.  He fought bravely and with dignity but it was too big a foe.  I don't want other people or families to suffer like we did so am committed to help others in a similar situation by fundraising, every little will help.   I will commit to completing 24 miles of running in August and will let you know when I finish.

My donations could fund...

44 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

19 hours of early diagnosis research

My Updates

Victory Run

Did another 4.6 miles in 70 mins just for the helluva it.  For some reason it rounded it up to 5 miles.  Go for it! Surprised how much you can do when that is your mantra.

6th run FINISHED!!!

Did another run Friday night.  Very tired but wanted to do those last few miles.  Clichéd but we are all on a journey and we can't take for granted what will happen along the way.    Some things and people will disappoint you but put it in perspective.  Most people, especially your loved ones, will keep you going and keeping going is what it is all about.  Losing your soulmate  knocks you off track completely especially when they are taken so quickly but be grateful for their love.  They are part of you and nothing can ever change that💘

5th run and wedding anniversary

I knew this weekend would be hard because it was my wedding anniversary on Sunday.  Days like that are always going to be difficult to get through as they starkly remind you of what you have lost.  It's hard to explain why I loved him so much and consequently miss him so much.  With Robert what you saw is what you got, he spoke his mind and was brutally frank and he could come across as rather abrupt.    His actions showed the real Robert and actions speak louder than words.   He was very thoughtful and caring and always there for me as I was for him.  The words can't describe the feelings  - the ache, the emptiness and the silence.   It is difficult to carry on without him but what else can I do?  So I run for him.  On Saturday, I completed another 4 miles.  I run in the hope it will soothe my pain and help someone else not go through similar suffering.

4th Run - Crystal Palace - Colin the hospice cat

Did 45 mins early this morning because of the heat.  Coming back I saw Colin, the hospice cat, sitting just outside the hospice entrance looking non plussed despite the heat and a weepy eye.  I took a photo so you can see him.  We learnt all about Colin when Robert was at the hospice and how he adopted the hospice as his home despite having his own perfectly good home which was a couple of miles from the hospice.  The story was that he may have originally lived near the hospice and was back looking for his owner and he always does seem on the lookout with a faraway look but that just might be cat behaviour.    The hospice got permission to adopt him and now he is a permanent fixture. I think he represents them very well, calm and peaceful and always there willing to listen without comment and offering comfort
Robert loved cats so Colin was a welcome feline face.  He is now a reminder to me of Robert's comforting days in the care of St Christopher's where he peacefully passed 9th November 2018.

3rd Run - Dulwich Park - Reflections

Tess joined me this morning for a run in Dulwich Park. We went early, it's going to be another scorching day.  Ran just over 4 miles again.  Robert lived in Dulwich his whole life so it was a fitting venue.  Had a call from the pancreatic cancer fundraising team on Friday.  They are going to send me a running top.  They say it helps raise awareness which is much needed.  I explained how I had found their helpline on the internet when Robert was diagnosed and I spoke to the nurses a number of times and they did help.  We talked about how doing the running helps you to remember and celebrate loved ones lives.  The cancer took Robert so quickly that there wasn't time for it  to sink in.  Events swept us along and then one minute he was there and then he was gone.  It is only now I am starting to come to terms with it all and the running is helping me to do that.

2nd run and Treptow Park

Would like to have done the second run at Treptow Park in East Berlin  but after visiting the memorial in the Centre of the park it just didn't feel right and I was emotionally drained  Over 2000 Russian soldiers are buried there and Robert loved us visiting this place.  it is sombre but  peaceful.  Very hard to be there without him but I am glad I went back for him.  Did the run in the gym instead and clocked up another  4 miles

First run

Went for a run around Crystal Palace Park at 8.45 am this morning.  Set a target of 50 mins and completed just short of 4 miles - 3.73.  Saw a Robin as I started (sign from Mum?) Finished coolng down walking past St Christopher's hospice.  Didn't see Colin (hospice cat) but saw another black cat.  I'll take that as a sign that Robert was cheering me on.
