Andy's PCUK Challenge 24 - 5kms

By Andrew Farley

I am fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Having lost my mom to pancreatic cancer on January 14th, 2020, I felt I wanted to do something to try and make a difference to the lives of those affected by and living with pancreatic cancer.

So between 1st and 31st March, I'll be running 5km 24 times in aid of this wonderful charity and in memory of my mom.

Whether it's £1 or £10, any donation will make a difference. Even getting the message out there about the affects of pancreatic cancer and what can be done to try and improve the diagnosis and survival rate is good enough.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to treat and tough to research. Please support me and help make a difference to pancreatic cancer.

Just trying to build a better future for the sufferers of this terrible disease and the families and friends that surround them.

My Updates

Challenge 24 completed

Finished, done and dusted. My challenge 24 is complete.

Did 2 back to back this afternoon and finished with a grand total of 134km under my belt. Please with that effort!

Completely overwhelmed by everyone's generosity, good wishes and support. It was an emotional last few metres and it all came out at the end when I saw my wife and daughter. They're support has been immeasurable and I love them so very much.

Im hoping that my mom would have been proud of what's been achieved and comforted to know that the money raised will go some way to eventually finding a cure for this terrible disease.

Thanks to everyone at Pancreatic Cancer UK too. Their kind words have helped me along the way too.

just got to think of something else to do for them now to continue to raise money and awareness for this fantastic charity.

RIP Mom. I love you.

Penultimate day - number 22 done

Almost at the finishing line now. Good run out today with good conditions and pace. Responsible social distancing happening too so it seems as though the message is finally getting across to people.

Looking forward to tomorrow's double run and finishing in the day I planned to despite the restrictions on societal movement at the moment.

Thanks again to everyone who's supported me so far. It means a lot.

Number 21

Finished number 21 and building up to the big weekend finale. Aiming for one tomorrow, slightly slower hopefully and then a back to back 10km on Sunday to finish off.

I planning on it being quite an emotional one on Sunday but I'll get through it.

Roll on the weekend!!

19 & 20 done

Did another 2 yesterday and today. Felt it yesterday for some reason, but felt a bit easier today. Only 4 left now. Hoping that I can squeeze in 2 5kms on Sunday and finish on schedule then. Might end up with one big one for the finale. Thanks for everyone’s support so far. Really appreciate it.

Number 17 & 18

Ran one yesterday and today. Saw some good social distancing today so fair play to people. Surpassed 100km too and 6 more runs to go. Hoping to get them in before the country is locked down for a little while. Worst comes to it, I’ll just run circles in the garden!

13-14-15-16

Completed another 4 runs over the last few days. Did my fastest one so far too last night, 23:56. Well impressed with that one.

Trying to stay as safe and sensible as possible in these I certain times. Mother's Day tomorrow so that'll be tough.

Thanks for everyone's support so far. Appreciate it all. Stay safe!!

Half way there!!

Did runs eleven and twelve yesterday and today after a couple of days off it. Yesterday's was a far better time than today's, but not too much to complain about.

All downhill from here now with any luck. Over half way in terms of distance too I think so good to know.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support. Stay safe and well!

Double figures.

Worst one yet. Horrible conditions. Cold and windy. Plus I swear the newton road is getting longer and steeper.

Go again tomorrow and earlier. See if that provides some additional focus.

Number 9

Awful conditions to run in tonight. So windy. Makes it harder to get any kind of pace going. Still it's another one done.

On to tomorrow. Change of route and, hopefully a bit earlier too.

One third complete. Number 8.

Strava said this was my fastest one yet. 24:29. Don't know how. Felt quite slow but not too bothered about times now. It's the distance and frequency that matters.

Ready to go again tomorrow.

Lucky number 7 completed

Had yesterday off unexpectedly so tonight's was the first of 9 in a row. Over 40km under my belt now and another good time of 25:15.

Rained all the way through too, but don't mind that. Helps to push you on further I think. Aiming for completion on 29th March at Sandwell Valley.

Thanks for everyone's continued support. Still overwhelmed with everyone's generosity too so thanks on behalf of me and the family.

Sixth one complete

Finished the first week today. Decent run out, but tried to beat my time yesterday and couldn't. Never mind! I'll go again tomorrow. All for the cause man, all for the cause!!!

Number 5 sorted

Fastest 5k yet. 24:34 according to my Strava. Well happy. The flatter route helped too. It was great too. Felt great after it. Looking forward to the next one now!

Number 4 finished

Toughest one so far. Poor time of 26.57, but latest one I've done so far too. Too tired, too late and too cold, but all worth it for this wonderful cause.

Having Wednesdays off each week as a recovery day so hoping that will help in the future days to come.

Thamks for everyone's support so far.

Third one sorted

Only a quick update. Fastest 5km so far - 25:47. Glad I didn't stay in to watch the Albion before I went. What a waste that would've been.

Number 2 done 😁

First night one. Quite like running at night though, cooler and cleaner air I find.

Nice route too so not too bad. Hoping motivation doesn't slip so if you see me out and about (I'll have a purple running vest on!) give me a shout or a honk of a car horn. It all helps!

1st run done, 23 to go

The first run is out of the way. Sandwell Valley was great this morning, quite busy, loads of dogs! And a fair few muddy puddles too!!

The new running vests I got from Pancreatic Cancer UK are great. A little snug, but it's my fault for thinking I'm still a medium in those things.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow and a run at night. No doubt it'll be cold again, but it's all worth it for a truly amazing cause.

Thanks again for everyone's support. It means so much to us all.

Pre-Challenge Runouts

Firstly, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that's donated so far and also to those that might have just viewed the page, etc to find out more information.

It's genuinely been overwhelming so far and I'm so grateful to everyone for their kind words of support. It's certainly given me the incentive to get going and raise as much money and awareness for this truly wonderful charity.

I've been getting back into the running side of things slowly over the last couple of weeks after having a couple of months off it with everything going on. It's been tough to start with, but hoping the regularity of it all will get me back to somewhere near to where I used to be.

I've done a couple of Parkruns at Sandwell Valley this month and already brought my time down by 45 seconds (27:54 to 27:09 last Saturday) so hoping to continue to improve in that sense.

Also got a nice 10km run under my belt on Sunday in preparation for the weeks to come. The first 5km of that run was 26:27 so no idea where that came from! It was mostly up hill too!

Looking forward to kicking it all off properly on Sunday, 1st March with a 5km run around Sandwell Valley. I'll only be looking to take Wednesday's off from running so should be on track to finish the 120km by 31st March with a day or so to spare with any luck.

It means the world to me and my family, as well as all of mom's friends and on behalf of the whole Farley/Beasley family, I want to thank you all from the very bottom of my heart.

Thank you to my Supporters
