I'm fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

On 30th November, I’ll be running my very first marathon – the Florence Marathon – in support of Pancreatic Cancer UK.

You might know I’ve run a few half marathons before, and if you were ever at one of those races (or saw me in the days after), you probably heard the words ‘Never let me sign up for a full!!!!’ come out of my mouth - yet here we are.  I was actually quite happy with my title as a ‘half marathoner’ and ticking away with most of my toenails and something called free time.  However, at the end of 2024, we lost my Uncle quite unexpectedly and being over 400 miles away I felt pretty useless to my family, so in a stroke inspiration (more likely delusion) I decided I’d run a marathon in his honour and raise some money for something important to our family, and science as a whole.  That then led to a fair bit of umm-ing and ahh-ing about which charity to support as there’s so many worthy ones.

However, when I was watching the London marathon on tv this year (trying to inspire myself probably) someone came on to speak about Pancreatic Cancer Charity UK and how they’re raising money to fund a scientific project which will get a simple breath test into the hands of GPs and allow early detection of that cancer.  This struck a chord with me as before I was born, my grandma (his and my Dad’s mum) passed away from pancreatic cancer after being misdiagnosed in the months prior, and heartbreakingly, the same happened to my friend’s mum 25 years later when we were interns together.  Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers and still, in 2025 when we have self driving taxis and ai for everything, is often diagnosed far too late.

So, to cut quite a long story short, I’m raising funds to help roll out quick ‘breath tests’ for early detection.

My goal is to raise £1,000 and I’d be incredibly grateful for any support you can offer.

My donations could fund...

44 hours with a nurse on our Support Line

or

19 hours of early diagnosis research
